Dragon Magazine Archive

Kind of a cross thread (see below), but part of my question is more appropriate here. Does anyone know how much "Dragon Magazine Archive (5cd set)" originally sold for? Also, when did this product come out? Does anyone here have this? What were the scans like? Good quality? Any feedback is appreciated.

NOTE: also looking to buy this is anyone has one to sell http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=167944

I believe it was priced about $50. The RPG.net review from the time lists it as between $44 and $70. However, discounted copies weren't too hard to find. I know I got mine at EB for between $20-$30.

It was £34.99 in the UK. Scans are pretty good. I transferred all the pdf's to my Powerbook, and each page is perfectly readable when you turn the screen sideways (so you can actually read it like a magazine).

Only problem I found was the missing creature catalogue I (from issue 89, IIRC), but fortunately I had that issue anyway.

A found a current web page that has this listed for 39.99 in the U.K. I sent them an e-mail this morning to see if they still have it. That's what? About $70 U.S.? Plus shipping of course.

I'm also looking here on Ebay.

Darn, I want this.

Good to hear that the scans were good.

I wish they'd do this with more current issues of Dragon, but I heard they had a lot of copyright issues with doing it.

I think I paid like $30-$40 for mine when it came out. It was actually discounted :p I hadn't looked at for years and just recently dug it out of a box.

And yes it readable and the transfers are pretty nice. You even get to see all the old adds and the those funny computer games we all used to play.

They still had some in the distribution chains as late as a year or two ago. If you are lucky, you might still find one on the shelves at various Waldenbooks AKA Borders Express since the buy-out.

I'm not sure which it was (either the Dragon Archive CD or the FR Atlas).

Whichever one it was was supposed to sell around 20 bucks, but the price got jacked up to around 50 just before it came out.

I know this as I was able to lock in the low 20 dollar price on via an Amazon Pre-order.

I think it may have been the FR Atlas.

If I still had the box I could look it up.

Amazon is not a reliable indicator of what a price is "supposed to be" (never was, and still isn't). They've eaten a lot of money because the priced things too low initially.

I don't believe roleplaying computer products get "suggested retail prices" because they know that one of their primary markets, roleplaying stores, can't afford to sell them at the incredibly low margins other places sell them at.

Anyone know where else I could search? I don't care what the package looks like, or if the disks are in their original cases or anything. I just want to have access to the 250 Dragon Magazines. I was thinking about a used/old CD/CD-ROM store or something. Anyone know of any on the net?
