Dragon Magazine: Monster Ecologies to be released!

WotC will never greenlight a Core Beliefs or Demonomicon compilation. At this rate, I'd be surprised if they gave the approval for an Age of Worms hard cover of DC2.

Oh, I already know that a greenlight of Core Beliefs or Demonicon is unlikely. Lisa Stevens told me that at Gen Con So. Cal as they were having problems getting a go ahead on one for them.

This seems like a cool idea but I'd have to flip through it, see the final selection and the physical quality of the product before purchasing. Also, while I think the current run of ecology articles are okay, I think the old format used during the 1st and 2nd edition eras, was far superior.

It's a Special Edition of the magazine, but it's not a "magazine". The cover stock will be thicker and the interior pages will be on a heavier paper stock as well.

This is purely wild speculation on my part, but I wonder if it's easier to get Wizards to approve a "Special Edition of the magazine" than it is for them approve a hardback book that would cover the exact same material.

It'd be far cooler if creatures like these spawned by doing something, you know, EVIL. Like stealing human young and corrupting them, or ritual sacrifice, or anything besides, you know, dating. :)

dating isn't the same as mating. There are plenty of reasons to have offspring and there doesn't have to be a relationship between the parents or the kid beyond name only.

I could easily see a king or queen Rakshasa marrying for politics or power and expected to have kids. The mate picked would probably be similar to themselves in personality with enough political power or money...thus another Rakshasa. As for their offspring, they would be used as tools. Marry them into good families and expand their parents power. To me it is all image and lies to fuel their needs....classic Rakshasa to me.

This is good to know. Thanks for popping in Joshua! :)

This is still far, far too "human" for me. I mean, you basically just described The Lion in Winter.

Any explanation that involves cute little rakshasa cubs is unacceptable, IMO. :)

Let's see.... Warhammer books of the 96 page type are $24.95 in hardcover and in b&w. The 128 page ones are in full color hardcover and cost $29.95.

A 32 page adventure is $10.95.

Nope. Not seeing a price rip off. Unless it's like a single issue or dragon which even at $8.00 is much cheaper than this.
Okay, let's put this back into perspective. The Warhammer books are books, which are printed on higher quality material, and hardcover books at that. WotC adventures have recently gone up to $15 and I think we can agree 50 cents a page is not what you would expect to pay for most RPG products.

If the ecologies were a $20 softcover I would not complain. A $20 softcover is pretty reasonable. I would pay $25 for a softcover. But apparently it is a magazine, printed on magazine paper, with color runs and pages coming loose or warping from being held or bent. It's the material, not the price, that I'm complaining about.
