Dragon Shaman without auras, what should it get?

I'd consider the Dragonfire Adept. Breathe fire all day, get scales and damage reduction, and cast dragon-themed Warlock-style invocations. If you don't like the scales, just say the character's skin gets tougher. The class has a poor BAB, but you don't need to make attack rolls for that breath weapon.

Instead of trying to tinker with the Dragon Shaman, have you looked at the Dragonfire Adept? (it's a dragon-themed Warlock variant in Dragon Magic)

Edit: Doh! Beaten to the punch!

I have not looked at dragon fire adept before. After looking at it, Its a very cool class and i might have to play it some time instead of a caster. I dont know if i will use it to build from as a base, but i did like parts of it that got my creative juices flowing.

Dragon Shaman is really all about the auras. Without them, there's just not much left.

I'd think that mount advancement should be tied to character level -- special abilities that are suitable for a mount or familiar are not necessarily suitable for a PC.

So, you basically like the breath weapon, but not much else? Dragonfire Adept is a good thing to steal from -- drop Invocations, just grant Breath Effects, and let it wear armor. BAB matters a lot less than with a Warlock, since breath weapons don't require an attack roll -- so tailor its skills and other class benefits to the BAB you want to grant.

Cheers, -- N
