Dragon tactics for PC wyrmling

I keep my Knowledge (Arcana) maxed out to be the party's dragon expert as well as to identify magic items (DC 30).

Sorry for the slight derailment, but where is that rule? I've never seen it before. It will make things so much easier for my mageless party.

Strickly speaking it's an optinal rule. Check the DMG, page 212 under 'Identifying Items': "You might also permit a character to attempt a DC 30 Spellcraft check or Knowledge (arcana) check to determine if she can attune herself with the item's power or if she remembers reading of it once in her studies." Considering that the DC is so high I don't consider it an abuse of the rules. Both groups I play in have adopted it and have benefited from it.
