Dragon themed fighter

Dragon Samurai from the MH seems like a cinch... breath weapon, energy damage with weapons, resistances, dragon affinity. You could qualify at level 5. Fighters often go sword and shield, but I think it would be fun to emulate a dragon's combat style in some way. How about a longsword and flail, for claws and tail? I just checked, and the Dragon Samurai can add energy damage to both. For armor, definitely scale, or sculpted full plate.
Dragon Devotee (Races of the Dragon, 5 level PrC) looks like a perfect match. It's easy to qualify for and it gives you fighter feats, sorcerer spellcasting and some minor "dragony" abilities. Beyond that the Platinum Knight PrC from Draconomicon would work out well I think. The spellcasting and dragonblood subtype from Dragon Devotee also give you other PrC options.
The Frightful Presence feat (Draconomicon) would be a nice touch. If you get sorcerer spellcasting, the Draconic Heritage feats in Complete Arcane and Races of the Dragon could provide some flavor.
Edit: Draconic grafts from Races of the Dragon are thematic magic items. They're often expensive, but you can afford a "glaring eye", and maybe later a "smashing tail".

Not sure if there are WotC equivalents, but there are claw-like weapons and the braid dagger in 3rd party sources. He could use the claw weapons with a spiked ball in place of the braid dagger.
