Dragonbane in Publix Commercial

Pretty surprised they didn't just go with D&D, but cool that they did.
According to a number of college kids who headed to the PNW from the "Deep South" (TN, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, AL), D&D still has a toxic image thanks to the combinations of the dominant religions in the region and the residuals of the Satanic Panic. Apparently, certain currently high visibility sects associated with certain high profile political movements have lead to D&D and Palladium to still be accused of being satanic training.

The most recent book burning targeting D&D I've seen coverage of was in 2012. The 2012 one directly targeted D&D and Palladium. Lead by a local televangelist not-quite-megachurcher... ANd that was in Anchorage Alaska. Said the owner of the biggest anchorage Games and Comics store, John Weddell, (paraphrased): they're going to just cause their kids to hate them, and to buy the books again, and I'll keep them in stock. Every time that megachurch does a bookburning, other games show up in the high school halls, and John's business gets a boost.
I've seen documentation of a more recent book burning in the deep south, but that's all indirect. most recent that pops up is 2019... height of the pandemic, too.

What a wholesome and positive ad, promoting fandoms of every kind as equal.

Now I just need to arrange being paid £50k per week as a professional role-player… ⚽

To be clear:

I'm sure the implication is that the kids are going to eat food fromPublix while they play Dragonbane, not that they bought the game there.
Getting their tasty, tasty sandwiches from Publix as they roll dice. The grocery chain is know for great deli sandwiches.

According to the publisher, they were contacted because have the One Ring license.

When Free League told them it was a licensed property and it might be a hassle, their contact was happy to get the Dragonbane box set instead (which has a lot of visual elements with a map, lots of standees, dice, and pre-gens.)

That's not to say the commercial's production team did or did not contact WotC first.

I live in Georgia. We have Publix stores all over. I rarely shop there. Kroger and Walmart have the same name brand products but cheaper. Publix does put out some excellent and often heartwarming commercials. I haven't seen this one yet.

I remember some of the commercials where you don't even know who is promoting this feelgood 30 second story until you see the end card.
