D&D 5E Dragonborn breath prof per day; does it work?

I'd really like to see it go to a Bonus Action, no more than once per minute but can be used a number of times equal to proficiency bonus (or one of Con/Chr modifier) per long rest.

I would prefer if the breath weapon was treated as a natural weapon, meaning that the character could use it to make attacks, like with creatures with natural claws or fangs.

Something like 1d20+Con vs AC, 1d6 + Con of the chosen element on a hit, Reach 10 ft?
Meaning a dragonborn warrior could use its breath as its main weapon.

Running this past all the math folks and char ops people.

Would changing Dragonborn breath weapons to proficiency bonus per long rest instead of 1 per long/short rest have any unforeseen consequences? I realize at high level that is 6 uses of 5d6 damage, but that still seems unimpressive to 20th level PC standards. I'm not saying this would fix Dragonborn, but would it break anything?
It definitely won't break anything.

At high levels it will almost never be the best use of your action.

At low levels it will make it a little more convenient, and it might be kinda strong at level 1-2, but it's going to fall away rapidly.
