D&D (2024) Linking number of usages of features to Ability bonus is a terrible idea.

Legend
with few examples that was shown from various sources in last couple of days, we have seen that 2024 version is moving away from Prof bonus usages per short/long rest to Ability modifier usages per short/long rest.

This will again just force minmaxing of abilities at the expense of tertiary abilities/character concepts.

not maxing your primary ability in terms of attack/damage/DC is OK choice, you will lose 5-15% of your DPS/control effects but you will gain something somewhere else.

Having less usages of your abilities is just picking to have less fun with your character.

Also, it is harder to balance adventures because you cannot predict with certainty how much abilities PCs will have for certain encounters, where with prof bonus you can do that.
IF encounter is made for 9th level PCs, the you can count 100% that specific ability can be used 4 times, with ability bonus, it can be anywhere from 1 to 5.(there will probably low limit of 1 usage independent of ability modifier).

now, there is also a problem with multiclassing and prof bonus, but if the ability is that strong and needed for certain class/subclass, then have the number us usages tied to how much class levels you have, but still you need to avoid Ability modifier limit for the ability.

best solution would be;
Number of usages; proficiency bonus
Power of ability; tied to class level.

I.E:
Rage, prof bonus per long rest usages, +1 usage per short rest.
Bonus damage, bonus effects; tied exclusively to Barbarian level

Agreed. A posted a thread about this some time ago; I was sorry to see WotC move away from using PB for regulating usage per day of abilities.
