Dragonbreath/area affects

Minirogue

First Post
OK, so I DMed my first session the other night, and one of my players (who plays a Dragonborn Warlock) used his enlarged dragonbreath, I was thinking that logically it should hit his allies (just about all of them were in the blast area), but I wasn't sure, so I was nice and let it just attack the enemies. The target text says "All creatures in area".

Also, I was wondering if he was only supposed to make one attack roll to apply to both enemies in the area, or if he should have made separate rolls for each enemy.

Thanks.

1) When it says 'all creatures', it means all creatures, both enemies and allies, so he should've made attack rolls against his allies as well. As an unrelated sidenote, the word 'ally' does not include you, so if someone uses a power that targets 'one ally', they can't target themself. This is why many powers say 'you or one ally'.
2) For area attacks, the attacker makes one damage roll, then roll seperate attacks for all the targets. This way, the attacker can state the damage right after being told whether the attack hit or missed.

You did follow a good principle of DM rule adjudication: When you just don't know and don't want to look it up, rule in favor of the PCs and look it up later.

Target... When a power’s target entry specifies that it affects you and one or more of your allies, then you can take advantage of the power’s effect along with your teammates. Otherwise, “ally” or “allies” does not include you, and both terms assume willing targets. “Enemy” or “enemies” means a creature or creatures that aren’t your allies (whether those creatures are hostile toward you or not). “Creature” or “creatures” means allies and enemies both, as well as you.

You were being very nice.

Attack... If your power can attack multiple targets, you make a separate attack roll against each target.
