Dragonlance and battlesystem

Let me try it on this board.

I'm runnig through a Dragonlance campaign and want to buy Battlesystem to run the tower battle in DL8.

Now, I've seen 2 versions; a box (1st edition) and a book (2nd edition). Are 1st and 2nd ed. very different and will I have big difficulties using the book since it's 2nd edition?

Anyone here played through the battles in DL8 "Dragons of war" using battlesystem? Was it worth it or should I just roleplay through the battles and have the PCs fight one on one?

the 2ed version of Battlesystem (the book(s)) will take some adjustments to convert.

use the 1ed Boxed Set.

or use some of your own rules.

i used the Companion Rules boxed set. there are rules for mass combat in the DM's rules.

you may also want to try Chainmail, Warhammer, etc...

the Quintessential Fighters or whatever it's called has mass combat rules for 3ed. if you are interested.
