Dragons Are Disposable(D.A.D.)Membership drive

I'm in - we already have aberrations, outsiders, humanoids and fey to come up with long-term, conniving, and genius plans...and I think they do them better than dragons.

Maybe we could cut down on Dragons' other-species libido? ;)

Just another critter as far as I am concerned - just generally badder and tougher than the usual. The players in my group always fear an encounter with a dragon and the encounters are nearly always tough (and often enough the PCs are forced to reatreat and come up with a better plan). But they're not beatable and I wouldn't want them to be.

Besides, if they were too precious, I wouldn't get to use my dragon minis

They are disposable. It gets boring fighting the same thing all the time. Toss out a dragon every now and then. Heck my current campaign my party fought a WHite dragon at lvl 3

While there's some groovy Dragon stuff out there (like the Dragon Shaman), I admit I'm kinda tired of the whole Dragon fetish thing. They're like the new elves.

Dragons may not be chumps, but they're certainly disposable critters.

Even CR 18 Reds (Mature Adult) are still within normal human range of INT and only cast as 9th level sorcerers. Sure, they're geniuses. But wizards of that level are typically even greater geniuses. They just aren't that impressive mentally or as casters inside the CR 20 range.
They have 18 ints at a little past the halfway mark of their potential growth.
So if you definition of children or teenagers is "not ancient or older," then yeah.
The post I was responding to was addressing the issue of how young the dragons most PCs fight in low to mid level level games. The definition of children or teenagers was young adult or younger.

Double heck - my first 3e campaign the party fought a white dragon at level 1! (Calcyrix in the Sunless Citadel adventure)

One of the best dragon fights in my campaign was during a particularly harsh winter, a juvenile white dragon was forced down out of the mountains and into the lowlands; it took 3-4 encounters to finish it off over a period of several game-weeks, and was lots of fun (nearly wiped out the party too!)

Signed, P&P (player of 1e dragons).

Howard Johnson is right!

Dragons are just another monster! I swear to god if I hear of one more campaign where the players are hired by a god-like dragon with it's filthy claws in every major event in the world, I'mma go ballistic! Dragons are hoarders of treasure types H, S and T with the occasional R thrown in for variety. The bad ones need to know that they're gonna wind up on the dinner plate and the good ones had best make with the nice conversation or get the hell out of the way.

This "dragons are godlike, no one could ever hope to defeat a dragon!" is ridiculous.
