Dragonstar: Deep Space Campaign, Part One: Taken

(before Banwyl rushes off)

"It's not so much that I know where we are as it is that I know where we aren't; we aren't anywhere near my home, that much is certain.

(after everybody starts to chase after the drogre (? echoed))

Kaalek snorts and mumbles to himself.

"I'd rather not blindly fall behind an oaf, myself. Quarrop, rise a bit and tell me what you see."

Quarrop floats about ten feet above and looks towards where the others are running, then drifts back down and half-mumbles, half-croaks incoherently.

"Hmmph, I suppose there may be something of interest there after all."

Kaalek shrugs and begins walking after the others.

As the lost abductees come to the object spotted by Mossaka They are only greeted with more confusion. Near the stream what appears to be a three foot metal cylinder rises straight up out of the ground. Seemingly solid it is made out of some silvery metal, possibly mithral, which you have all heard of in tales from your homelands. You all can?t help but notice the soft blue glowing square on its top. A closer look reveals a square divided into nine smaller squares, upon these smaller squares are etched symbols; Three triangles, two with a pair of wavy lines, and four with circles of various sizes. You?re not sure what it all means, but as the first of you draws closer the blue square begins to blink slowly.

DM: Let's see if you're all up to a little challenge. :D

Mossaka lands next to the contraption and peers down at it. It's metal, so he knows he can't eat it (or at least, metal never tastes very good). It's not moving and doesn't have any sharp edges, so he's not particularly afraid of it. Therefore, doing what comes naturally, he plants a giant foot near the top and gives it a test shove.

If it doesn't budge with the inital push, he'll push harder. If the stupid thing continues to mock him, Mossaka rears back and drops his shoulder into it, putting the full force of his colossal strength into tipping it over.

Horatio backs up from the contraption, so if it blows up he will be further away.

As the drogre (ooc: is everyone ok with this term?) starts to tear into the metal shaft, Banwyl tries to get his attention, "Mossaka! Mo-ssa-ka! I'd like to see what this metal thing is all about before you break it okay? You obviously can't eat this thing, so why don't you survey the area and find yourself a snack?"

Looking over the symbols, Banwyl makes an educated guess at their meaning, "I would say that these circles represent the four moons." The arbiter scratches the stubble on his head and rubs his face, continuing, "If I'm right about that, then the curved lines might symbolize bodies of water, either oceans or rivers or even little streams like that one over there." He points and then returns to the strange device, resting his chin on the palm of his hand, "As for the triangles, I'm not sure. Mountains, maybe? Anyone else have some input they'd like to add?"

Sasaki lifts into the air with the aid of two large, feathery wings, and follows Mossaka. When he arrives at the metal cylinder he hovers just off the ground a few feet back and lets the others work the puzzle.

As the others finish their approach of the object they see the mighty Drogre [ Works for me] on all fours his shoulder pressed against the metal cylinder pushing with all his might, with very little success. The cylinder appears to be very deeply embedded. As Banwyl makes his observations the blinking speeds up a little.

At the sound of his name, Mossaka ceases his pushing and looks over his shoulder to see Fuzzyhead approaching. He merely smiles, displaying rows of dagger-like teeth and turns back to regard the contraption. He scratches his scaly head and then looks up to see the winged one.

Having never seen such a sight, he simply stares for a few moments...it's a manling so it wouldn't taste good...but it's got birdy wings and birdies taste good...but not birdie wings....those make Mossaka sneeze. But it had talked...so it must be more manling than birdie.

The others have gathered around by the time Mossaka finishes with that mousewheel-powered train of logic. His lower lip pokes out again as he realizes Manbird isn't to be eaten. Worse, the little box makes for a poor toy. Fuzzyhead was talking funny again but it didn't mean much to him.

The Drogre (sounds good to me) steps over the cylinder and heads over to the little stream. He plants one foot on the opposite shore, falls forward onto his hands, and drops his lower jaw into the gentle waters. If he can't eat, at least he'll have something to drink.

Tenos looks at the image on the top, then on an impulse touches the center button.

"Hey, if it's a fancy game of tic-tac-toe, then you always take the center first, right?"
