Dragonstar: Deep Space Campaign, Part One: Taken

As Banwyl presses each square it retracts and turns green. As the last one is pressed a double beep sounds and then the cylinder rises up several feet. Cracks appear in its smooth flanks and split into six sections, opening like the petals of a flower. Inside attached to a central spine are six objects. Flat black in color about two and half feet long, cylindrical with a handle. Sasaki thinks they sort of resemble the crossbows of his homeland, but of strange construction with no bow or string on them.

With the first beep Horatio dives to the ground and covers his head with his hands. After a few seconds and no boom he gets up slowly looking around. He notices the now open container and steps a few feet closer to get a closer look, curiousity appearing to be overriding caution.

Mossaka cranes his neck up from the stream at the sound of beeping. At first, he thinks it's a birdie but is quite elated to find that Fuzzyhead has figured out how to play with the toy. He rises up to his full height and leaps into the air.

With a single, incredible flap of his massive white wings, the Drogre clears the span and lands next to the manling with the big floppy hat. He reaches out and touches the inside of one of the metallic "petals". Twisting his hips and rotating about the shoulders, he attempts to give the "flower" a midair twirl like a dandelion.

"Interesting," Banwyl says, truly surprised that his guess worked. Picking up one of the objects by its handle, he turns to the others asking, "Do any of you weave magic? Perhaps these are some kind of wand?"

Sasaki

Sasaki moves to the cylinder and picks up one of the 'objects', and inspects it. "These are similar in appearance to the weapons we give to the peasants when they are needed in war."

Sasaki will point the 'object' at a tree well away from the group and try to pull the trigger or depress any levers that are apparent.

Having taken their time coming over, Kaalek and Quarrop arrive. Kaalek and chides Sasaki "I would not leap so readily to tinker with such things. For all any of us knows, they could well be cursed, yes?"

Quarrop, meanwhile, is evidently not pleased at being near the drogre once again and makes sure to keep one eye focused on him at all times.

Mossaka grabs a hold of the metal petal and tries to twirl it. Unfortunately he only twists the metal panel itself, bending it off to the side. The violent motion causes the one of the metal objects to fall lose and strike Mossaka's toe.

As Kaalek last words leave his mouth Sasaki's finger closes on a small lever near the handle. A bolt or red light flashes across the clearing to strike a tree. The tree's sap explodes with the sudden increase of heat, flames lick up the tree's trunk causing it to smolder. Even from this far away you can see the hole burned completely through the tree!

DM: I really like Quarrop, keep it up Mickerus :D

Impressed, Banwyl looks for the lever on his own lightstick. Once he has found it, he points the business end at the same tree and tries to place his bolt through the burning hole left by Sasaki.

Kaalek, disgusted by his newfound companions' utter lack of discretion or caution, casts detect magic to see if he can learn anything about these weapons.

Quarrop hovers about, adding everybody currently holding one of the weapons to his "watch at all times" list and darting down whenever one is pointed anywhere near him.

OOC: What can I say? I like Quarrop quite a bit myself. Everybody should own a non-threatening beholder-kin!

After about the third time Horatio has hit the dirt as trees have exploded around him he will screw up his courage enough to get a little closer to the group and try and find out how many there are and if there is one left he will grab it, look around and see how they are causing theirs to fire and once that is established he will look for some way to carry the object, once that is done he will start looking at the weapon for marking and buttons and so on.

OOC: Ya see a real killer woulda asked about that yella button.
