If you're referring to Malice abilities, those are abilities that are available anytime a monster of that type is present; and they use a global resource controlled by the Director. They are rather essential, but the simple trick is to just list the 'Malice Statblock' like another monster next to your other monsters when playing.

I'm not sure how that's simple. But yes, that's what I meant. I love the idea, I don't love the layout and execution.

I tend to enjoy world settings and reading them for creative ideas….Greyhawk, FR, DragonLance, Golarion, etc have always been fun reads. I’ll have to check it out when it comes out.

If this is what people complain about in his setting, I can only say that a lot of this sounds interesting to me and makes me curious about it
I still don't understand how it's controversial to say that one of the things that has made Draw Steel popular is the weird setting stuff. I'm not sure it's all for me but I really have seen enough of bog standard settings.

same, I want a little bit of a twist, otherwise I can just keep using some established setting. At the same time I do not want it too weird however, just less generic / bland, not all out ‘weird’

I also like that gods and magic are not the answer to everything and that there is a lot of lost knowledge that now is irrecoverable, making things a little harder for the players than D&D does

My post with the video was not a reaction to what you posted, but to ones like
The less-tractable one is that it is absolutely NOT a generic fantasy game, despite being kind of represented as such and MC himself suggesting you could use it as such (possibly even in the playtest, I forget). It is a weird-as-hell and very specific setting with a lot of space fantasy in it.
only an example, not picking on this one in particular

After the video I am curious about Matt’s setting book, before I was not, will see how things develop, but so far he piqued my curiosity with the video

Good interview with James Introcaso on rewards & treasure along with different subprogressions of stuff that falls under them. I skimmed back a few pages & it doesn't seem to have been posted unless it was just a link.
