Dreadnecromancer martial weapon

I don't have my books in front of me, but you might want to check out the Planar Handbook for the Salamander barbed spears- because of their all-metal construction, they do more damage.

Unfortunately, I simply don't recall if that made them martial or exotic, or just meant that they were made of an unusual material.
The barbed spear is a decent option, but I highly suggest Lucern Hammer. LOTS of damage (2d4) and has 2 different types of damage (Piercing and Bludgeoning). This makes fancy work of everything from Weeping Angels to Mother-in-Laws

That reminds me- check out DCv1 for a truckload of polearms (simple, martial and exotic). You may just find one that sings to you.

If the DM agrees maybe go with:

Broadsword, 1d10, 19-20/x2

from Mongoose's Conan D20 game. It's a martial weapn in that rule set.

I let my 12 y/o use one with his Dread Necromancer.

A point about big ole swords or axes from a RP viewpoint: just like the scythe, they have their own associations with death. Both were used by executioners, after all.

My sentiments exactly. I just suggested scythe for the Massive Crit, decent damage, and the fact its slashing, thus Thinauan and Pandemic Silver fodder
