Dreseden Files RPG is Awesome

First Post
I played in a game yesterday and got the books today. I like this releasing books at Origins thing and more companies should do that. Anyway, I've not been this impressed with a game in quite some time. It is one of the most entertaining RPG books to read I've ever read. It does help to be a fan and have read the books this is based one and it is neat to see jokes involving the TV series in there.

It uses the fate system which could be a pro or con to people. I've not had much experience with it but what I have had I've liked. I really need to sit down and read both books but I'm thinking that this might be the best RPG I've seen in years. I'm trying to think what is better as a whole product and I'm not coming up with much that can compete.

the timing on your post is a little funny (for me, personally) because I was *just* rewatching the TV Series on Hulu.com

I never did read the books or play the RPG for it, but I can see how the premise might play out better in those other mediums (not that it was terrible in the tv show, but things like Bob would be a fun concept for a familiar and what not)

I am a huge fan of the Dresden Files, have read all of the books and short stories, and loved the tv show (and still mourn it's loss). This new RPG is one of the most entertaining that I've ever read, and I'm chomping at the bit to play it at GenCon in another 5 or 6 weeks (give or take).

All of that said, I think someone who isn't familiar with the books or show would still find it entertaining to read, if not actually play.

So, a question for those who have seen the game and read the books - how spoilerific is the game? I'm reading one of the books now, and I've a couple still to go. Am I going to ruin my reading if I look at this game too much?

I haven't had the chance to really read the PDFs yet, so I'm not sure how spoilerific they are. But, there's nothing from Changes (the latest book) in there. I don't remember about Turn Coat; I want to say Small Favor was the last book included, but I'm not 100% sure.

Edit: Flipped through -- very spolierific, at least of early books. I think it's okay past Small Favors, but I can't find where Fred or Chad or other Evil Hatters said that.

There are spoilers in the marginals, but only the kind that you have to have already read to realize. Other than that, there's just the monster descriptions. I can't think of a specific beasty, but I'm sure at some point you could have seen a nasty in Our World, then read about it in a book later and know what it can do before Harry does.

That's about it, as far as I know. But then, I've mostly looked at mechanics and skimmed the marginals for laughs.
(For fun, look up "Shut up, Bob" in the index.)
