I'm with the crowd that says this makes more sense than previously. I like the idea of a bunch of drow moving out of the darkness, and then a huge spider creature joins them...bwahahahahah.

Besides the GSL, this is the kind of change that keeps me away from 4e.

I can see people thinking it's logical, but in my mind Driders have been disgraced Drow for a very long time, and I like it that way.

Spider people would be weird if you paraded them around the streets of Chicago, yes. If you parade them around the streets of Spiderville, where Spiderpriestesses chill with Spidergod, eh, less so.

And don't forget, in Gary Gygax's Elelhei-Cinlu, Drow Priestesses coupled with FREAKIN' NYCALOTHS just for kicks! Drow being a blessing OR curse are equally reasonable...

...or it could be like those "negative promotions" you see in corporations from time to time. "Chief Operations Officer" sounds like a good title, but when you find out it's COO of the company's Antarctica Base Station, it's a little less thrilling.
