Blizzard Entertainment in Discussions with Drizzt Do Urden for Exclusive appearance in World of Warcraft(R): Cataclysm(TM)
IRVINE, Calif., July 12, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Blizzard Entertainment announced today that it is in discussions with Drow Ranger, Drizzt Do' Urden to appear in
Cataclysm(TM), its highly anticipated new expansion for
World of Warcraft(R). “Mr. Do’ Urdenis excited about becoming a fixture in the most popular Role-playing game in the world”, said said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Seeing as we had based the Blood Elf Ranger class and its animal companion completely upon Drizzt anyways, having Mr. Do’ Urden join us in an official capacity will go a long way in helping us increase our immersion - and avoid further litigation - when we launch Cataclysm later this year."
Drizzt’s agent and manager, R.A. Salvatore, explains that the iconic Drow Ranger’s demands for an ongoing level increase so that Drizzt is always ten levels higher than the next highest Drow NPC in the game is the stumbling point right now in the negotiations with Blizzard. Salvatore confirmed that Blizzard understands the Drow legend’s special needs: “Drizzt’s iconic status requires that he retain improbable benefits in combat that will make him all but invincible, even at the hands of the largest raiding parties composed of the geekiest fanbois ever.”
Agreeing with Salvatore, Mike Morhaime confirmed that “Blizzard is bringing all of its technical prowess to bear upon the Drizzt fanboi problem.”
Meanwhile, Drizzt’s famous magical scimitars and his faithful animal companion are awaiting the transition to World of Warcraft stats and artwork while residing in their palatial new living quarters in a flash drive, kept in the upper drawer of a desk in the account payables department of Blizzard/Activision.
Cataclysm is the third expansion for
World of Warcraft, the most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game in the world. The first two expansions,
The Burning Crusade(R) and
Wrath of the Lich King(R), each shattered PC game sales records upon their release. In
Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now been reshaped by the devastation and filled with new adventures. In an effort to attract even more power gamers without any real connection to the hobby of tabletop story-telling, Drizzt Do' Urden is expected, once again, to entice teenage male virgins with little hope of reproductive success to devote countless hours of their grey and unhappy lives to pretend to have an impact upon the wholly pre-ordained fate of the Alliance and the Horde.
