Dropping a summon bomb in a room from outside.

I may have missed something regarding a hole in a door in the original message that started the thread.
Well, the original message said:
The druid (or any caster) stands outside a room with an open doorway, and casts summon nature's ally (or monster).
Emphasis added.

My question had nothing to do with line of effect, or even line of sight, really. I don't know how that debate got started.

Right. Well, in the absence of other instruction, it attacks your opponents.

And as noted, the definitions of 'opponent', 'enemy', and 'ally' are... nebulous.

What about these Hyper?

Ally: A creature friendly to you. In most cases, references to "allies" include yourself.

Enemy: A creature unfriendly to you.

Nothing on "opponent" here, though I'd just go with:

One that opposes another or others in a battle

So summoning a creature into a room would not attack "your opponents" unless a battle was already in progress. Note that a battle has begun once the summoned crature is attacked.

Looks sound to me *shrugs* but I just stepped into the discussion, pardon if I missed anything! :)

Right - which is why Bless and Bane in combination with Detect Magic act as traitor detectors.

Bless affects all allies within 50 feet - that is, all creatures friendly to you. If someone doesn't radiate Enchantment after you cast Bless, they're not friendly to you.

Bane affects all enemies within 50 feet - that is, all creatures unfriendly to you. Anyone who radiates Enchantment after you cast Bane is therefore unfriendly to you. Anyone who doesn't either a/ isn't unfriendly, or b/ made their Will Save...

Uh... most of the creatures on the Summon Nature's Ally lists are of type Animal, so Speak With Animals works just fine.

The Celestial and Fiendish versions of animals on the Summon Monster lists are Magical Beasts (not Outsiders), so Speak With Animals won't work. But that's okay, because "Any creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher understands at least one language (Common, unless noted otherwise).", and the templates state "Abilities: Same as the base creature, but Intelligence is at least 3."

Thus, any summoned Celestial or Fiendish animal understands Common, since the template does not 'note otherwise'.

Wonderful. Another incredible piece of information learned here at EN World. All of my future mages and clerics thank you. :)
