Drow Rouge Questions...

D4v1nc1

First Post
Hello there. This is my first thread so i apologize for any mistakes made.
I started playing DND recently and I have a few questions.

Question 1:
When filling out the ability scores for a drow you add the bonus to actual score, correct? So 18 dex comes out as 20 dex.

Question 2:
For at-wills, how do calculate dexterity Vs. Whatever. It would be the same as the regular attack workspace on the Character sheet, but using my dex modifier instead of my str modifier, correct?

Question 3:
How do the magical items work? Do i just add the name to whatever im using, and all the properties the name gives? Example: Thieving Dagger +1. My friend gave me a weapon so we could start playing and he said if i throw it it comes back to me. Is this a special weapon or is it true for all magic daggers?

Question 4:
This is sort of unrelated to rules but i figured i would throw it in. I am allowed 3 magical items from lvl 5-1. What items should i grab for my rouge? It's a trickster using Sly Flourish and Piercing Strike.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer to this newbie.

1) Yes.
2) Yes.
3) Magical thrown weapons return to the user.
4) No clue... Sorry.
But a more serious question... Do Drow really need to wear rouge?

Welcome to EN World. :D

Thank you much! Now my character sheet is up to date and correct.
Thank's for the welcome, i have a feeling ill probably be around this sit a bit.

I have a question to add onto his list -

Can drow rogues use a hand crossbow in melee without any penalities?

or does it act like other ranged attks (you get an opporunity attack on them)

For some reason I thought i read somewhere they were special (either hand crossbows or drows using them)

It would provoke an OA. There is a special Drow feat that allows you to use one without provoking.

Also for the OP if you are going for an Artful Dodger Rogue you might want to go with 16 (after racial bonus 18) in Dex and Cha. Use Sly Flourish mostly. Thats a nice +8 damage on an At will.

You didnt say what level your character was but if its 1st thru 3rd download the character builder from WOTC. That will give you a good place to start.

I think rouge would look terrible on Drow. Their complexion is all wrong for it.

:)

Welcome to EN World. I think the other posters answered most of your questions.

As for items, the "Big 3" are magic weapon, magic armor and magic (cloak or amulet). I'd get one of each. I'm not sure from your post whether or not you get a total of three items or the magic dagger and three more items. If it's the latter you can get creative with your last item and go for some magic boots or gloves, or a wondrous item. But I'd cover the basics first.
