Druid and Wild Shape

The Wild Shape power says "You choose a specific form whenever you use wild shape to change into beast form". What does this sentence mean?

Does that only mean that when using this power a druid chooses the look of the beast form and that form does not change until he uses the same power again?

Or, should a player choose one specific form when creating his druid and the druid always takes that form?

I took it to mean you choose what form to take when you change form. The next time you can choose the same form or a different form.

This is why some folks think it is overpowered for an at will class feature. That it allows you to change your appearance into pretty much any medium sized beast.

I am not one of those people, but I would like to point out that for me that is one of the draws of the class, is wild shaping for out of combat purposes into whatever form is appropriate. Not that the Druid needs any more draws.

At best, it lets you make a Bluff check to convince people that you are, in fact, a bear. You have the shape, but you might not have the mannerisms.

Contrast this to without it, where you cannot make a Bluff check to convince people that you are, in fact, a bear. You might even have the mannerisms, but you look like a dwarf. Bears do not look the same as dwarves. No one is likely to be fooled... except perhaps a gelatinous cube.

And the cube doesn't really care. Bear, dwarf, it's all the same to it.

Initially, I thought when you chose a specific form you must be that form every time you Wildshaped. (This must be a holdout on my mind from the shapeshift druid option from 3.5).

Upon rereading it today I see you are right! It doesn't say anything about it being stuck to a form.

Good catch.

Wildshape question

Speaking of Wildshape, what can a druid in animal form do? Changinf to animal form doesn't affect their stats or their movement rate, but does it affect other more mundane things? For example, one of my players (you know who you are!) wild shaped into a snake and attempted to open a closed door. How would you rule this type of action?

Thanks!
