I am running a campaign which focuses on the Plane of Shadow. It is not still fully revealed to PCs but the BBEG will be the Elemental Prince of Shadow (my original monster).
Now I am wondering if I can let appear a villain druid who has a Shadow Elemental Companion.
"Elemental Companion" alternative class feature in complete mage allows a druid to have an elemental as a companion instead of an animal. And, Tome of Magic shows shadow elemental, which is like other elementals but is composed of shadow and reside in the Plane of Shadow.
I am thinking about giving the druid a shadow elemental companion instead. But, shadow elemental is stronger than usual elementals. CR is +1 higher for small to medium elementals and +2 higher for Large or larger ones.
What kind of compensation should be fair? Do you think reducing effective druid level by 2 for getting a companion is enough?
