Druid/monk & entangle

Can a Druid5+/Monk1 that is wildshaped use Flurry of Blows while in an applicable animal form, such as ape? (Should it then be called Furry of Misses?)

Can a Druid5+/Monk1 use stunning fist while wildshaped?

Lastly, does entangle need grass or other growth to work properly? Would it work in the desert? Underground? In a home without wooden floors? Just looking for a little more detail in what's acceptable.

Thanks in advance -

Yes, but he deals unarmed strike damage appropriate to a monk of the ape's size category, not natural weapon damage.

Entangle affects 'Plants in a 40' radius spread'. If there are no plants, the spell does nothing.

My group generally accepts the fact that entangle could work just about anywhere. If you are underground, there is bound to be tree roots, moss, and other plant material around. The same might apply to a desert environment, of course if you are in a place with nothing but sand, it won't work.

I think it is a DM judgement call.

My personal opinion is that monk unarmed damage doesn't translate into any animal form the druid might take, because the unarmed combat is based upon the use of the human form. I wouldn't allow flurry of blows (or monk unarmed damage progression) to be used while wildshaped. I would allow monk AC bonus to apply though.

Agree with Hyp on the entangle thing though. It is 'balanced' (heh) by the fact that it isn't usable in many adventure situations.

Cheers

That's actually a bonus, though. Size M Mnk1 is 1d6. Size L Mnk1 would be 1d8. Dire Ape claws are a base 1d6. In fact, the 1d8 for Large forms and 1d6 for Medium forms are as good as or better than most forms' primary natural attack (keeping in mind that wildshaped druids do reduced damage in rhino or tiger forms as they don't have Improved Natural Attack).

Given the power of Entangle as a first level spell (see various other threads here) having areas where it doesn't work seems to be a patently Gud Idder™.

EDIT: BTW there is the somewhat cryptic "Note: The effects of the spell may be altered somewhat, based on the nature of the entangling plants." at the end of the spell description. Given that the spell description doesn't include any growth of the plants, I'd be inclined to rule that even when there are plants but it's more like golf-green grass vegetation that the spell is nearly ineffective. *shrug*

And when you're in Sigil and there's Razorvine everywhere... *sigh*
