Druids (and everyone else) wildshaped into a tiger...

Klaus

First Post
So tigers get Improved Natural Attack (bite and claws). That's mainly what makes them better in combat than, say, lions (so HD is a tad higher, which is also not relevant here).

BUT, while wildshaped/polymorphed/whatever, you don't get the form's feats, right? So while in tiger shape, you do less damage than a tiger!

Thoughts?

A little less damage... but you still get Imp. grab, Pounce, & Rake.

You get any special attacks and any racial bonus feats.

You acquire the physical qualities of the new form while retaining your own mind. Physical qualities include natural size, mundane movement capabilities (such as burrowing, climbing, walking, swimming, and flight with wings, to a maximum speed of 120 feet for flying or 60 feet for nonflying movement), natural armor bonus, natural weapons (such as claws, bite, and so on), racial skill bonuses, racial bonus feats, and any gross physical qualities (presence or absence of wings, number of extremities, and so forth). A body with extra limbs does not allow you to make more attacks (or more advantageous two-weapon attacks) than normal.

This isn't changed in either Polymorph or Wildshape.

The tiger still exceeds the lion's damage output because of slightly higher strength. Also you have three chances to try for an improved grab per full attack instead of one, as tigers get improved grab with their claws as well as with their bite.

Improved Natural Attack (bite & claw) aren't racial bonus feats... they're HD feats.

Oy. Yet another reason I prefer Masters of hte WIld wildshaping. No way am I going to go to this level of calculating for my wildshape forms. Just lemme act like an animal and be done with it!

I suppose you'd prefer to gain their BAB in place of your own too?

Here is a small XLS sheet that might help you out on this. It is far from complete, and only SRD creatures are in there. Probably some calculation errors still exists, but most of the time it's ok. Should be self explanatory for anyone used to excel.

Oh, and the blink dog is included because Exalted Wildshape (from BoED) is the sneaky druids best friend.

I wouldn't mind. But this is a relatively simple calculation, and you know to do it with each animal; searching for feats that change damage, natural armor, attack bonuses, and so forth is much more involved.
