Drunken Master can't use Drink Like a Demon?

First Post
i never noticed this before, but it seems that the use of the Drunken Master's ability of Drink Like a Demon could disqualify the character for the prestrige class.

Dodge is a prerequisite for the class, Dodge requires a Dex of 13+, Drink Like a Demon lowers Dex by 1 point per drink consumed.

so it looks like a Drunken Master could potentially drink himself out of his own class!

is there an errata or FAQ that addresses this? or maybe im misunderstanding the way prerequisites work for feats and prestige classes...

You don't loose a PrC because of having lowered your ability scores. Niether do you loose the feat, you are only temporarily hindered in using it.

Should a character find herself in a position (changed alignment, lost levels, and so on) where she no longer meets the requirements of a prestige class, she looses all special abilities (but not HD, base attack bonus, or base save bonus) gained from levels of the prestige class.
Fortunately, if you not longer have the prerequisites for a feat, you do not lose that feat, but simply cannot use it. Even though you cannot use Dodge if your Dexterity drops below 13, you still have Dodge, so you still meet the requirements for the Drunken Master. Now, if Drunken Master required 13 Dex, then you'd be in trouble.

Generally, no PrCs require a specific ability for that very reason.

Yep, losing PrC status cause of poison would be bad news. Imagine all the assassins that use the right poison to bring PrC'ed enemies into discredit.

Also, I remember something about the Drunken Master not losing some things due to drink-like-a-demon - ability damage.

ahhh!

thank you very much. that was the problem i was having. i thought losing too much Dex made you lose the Dodge feat, but i was obviously mistaken. that makes me feel much better.

The class that really gets screwed by this is Survivor, since they require base saving throws lower than your class level-- and their first level gives you a +2 to each base save.
