Dry spell?

Anyone here going through a dry spell where you're not gaming much if at all? What kinds of RPG activities do you do during such a time to keep involved in the hobby? What impediments are keeping you from being in a game right now?

I have been, but currently I'm gaming one weeknight every other week pretty regularly. As for how do I keep involved, have you seen my postcount here?

A combination of:

RW issues for some of the players taking up time; a couple of players becoming unreliable; and frankly, after all these years, I'm kinda tired of DM'ing.

I'm still interested in the hobby, and keep involved by posting here, by futzing around with eTools and trying different characters I'll never get to play :). MMORPGs can fill some of the void, too. Plus, reading more, although I'm beginning to depair of finding any decently well-written and original fantasy stuff.

Oh, and holding on to the prospect of future game-days. And hoping maybe to make it to GenCon some year. I keep scanning the Gamers Looking for Gamers forum, too. (Too bad Threshel's way the hell out in the boonies. I enjoyed his M&M game at the gameday.)

Play by Post games! Nobody ever has to be away from the hobby. :)

I don't think I would get much enjoyment out of this style of gaming. I think it's the pacing and the lack of direct social interaction that I would have trouble with.

I am in the midst of a dry spell now. Our group is large and so always had issues with getting together. Two of the players moved away last summer so we have tried to plan games for trips back the area. So far they have all failed for one reason or another. We started a separate campaign with a subset of the group who wanted to play more often, but somehow it still has not happened. We live too far apart to pull off the Friday evening game for a couple of hours - not worth driving a total of three hours round trip after work to play for maybe four hours - and now one of those players (the one geographically closest to me, of course) is moving away.

What do I do? I hang out here and hope for a reply to the link in my sig. So far one response doesn't look good - they game on weeknights and I have classes. Just got an invite to a 1st ed. AD&D game not too far away. Have to see when they get together and then dust off the old books if it looks like it might work out.

I'm in a dry spell right now as well. The main dm for our group isn't running anymore, so its been slow.

Mainly a bunch of people, including myself, have been running one shots. Also, I've been active on a few forums to talk about character ideas, rule, and such.

I just got out of a dry spell a few weeks ago, then started DMing game for my brother's kids.

It will only last another couple of weeks though; I'll only be here that long.

To each his own! :) But, it does have more social interaction than reading a rpg novel, playing a rpg computer game, or doing nothing at all. ;)

I said it before on another thread but it bears repeating: MMORPGs are my methadone for PnP RPGs.

The impediments are essentially my lack of willingness to neglect family and work life. I do have one "guy night" a month, which is typically gaming. But all D&D and no paintball makes Biggus a dull boy.
