Dry spell?

despite working for a video game magazine (1up.com!), i'm deep in a dry spell of all forms of gaming. My commute is long each day, and at work, i'm too busy doing production stuff to actually get around to gaming. It's kinda sad, really.

I survive in a more or less permanent dry spell... RL obligations and the fact that two of my players each live 2 hours away (in opposite directions), and a 3rd used to live 3 hours away (but has just moved to the same town as me) has meant we game just 4 or 5 times a year. It's tough luck but its the way it is. As GM and still building the world I spend a lot of time with that - as well as just reading through the books. My players are all very busy and only one of them really keeps thinking about his character and 'driving the plot' during the gaps between games, which is a bit frustrating - I wish that more of them were interested in that but the others, though great gamers, are in it for the fun and getting together - the characters are almost a by product.

My group's in a dry spell right now. Our DM took the campaign in a different direction, but then thought maybe it wasn't such a good idea. So I'm in a couple PbPs, including Living ENworld. Sure the pace is slower, but it beats not having a game. Otherwise, I've been buying the books for the Stargate RPG, since AEG lost the license.

I don't think I would get much enjoyment out of this style of gaming. I think it's the pacing and the lack of direct social interaction that I would have trouble with.

Says the man with an EnWorld post count over 5000?!?! Try it some time. It's kinda like here but in character 80% of the time.

Just got outta one! My friends were playing on Sat. nights, but thats double time night for me, so I didn't play for about a year. They called me up about 2 months ago, wanting to play every other Friday (which is perfect for me). Now I'm retaking the DMs spot also (WLD), and am hoping to switch em over to WFRP. I'm kinda burned on 3e. Good luck to all y'all who aren't playing, hope things turn up for ye'.

I haven't gamed since October. I do miss it. I keep myself involved through EN World, reading new gaming books and I just started working on my first homebrew class. I hope to get back into active gaming in the near future. I'd love to play. I've been the Eternal GM for over a decade...

I've spent about a year in a relative dry spell - moved to a new city, and I've only run 2 games since then. I also have to write the Series 7 brokerage exam on Friday, so the last two months have been pretty scant on spare time. But I've met two seperate groups that are looking for a DM - so as long as I pass, I'm SET.

As for keeping involved, I tend to do a lot of campaign design (see my Legends of the Last Age design thread).

I am going through a huge dry spell right now because of school - I'm in exam week right now, and for the past 8 weeks we've been working on one huge project that took up all our time. On top of that, my kids are Irish Dancers, and the competition season has just started again, so we are running around every weekend to feisanna within a six-hour drive. I think we've gamed twice in the past 8 weeks.

How do I get through it?

I got back into Magic the Gathering. I'm reading my Star Wars d20 books again. And I have the guilty pleasure of AdventureQuest (an online flash game) for about half an hour every day.

Our dryspell just ended. It was business as usual: Someone had a two-week vacation, and of course he was DM in one group and player in the other, and right at the time we started a new campaign so the DM wanted everyone present. Then, the DM cancelled another session. In the other group, we also had the usual: New campaign as well, DM wants everyone present, one cannot during the week, so we move to saturday for the next couple of sessions. He still cannot at this weekend, and as soon as the DM decided that we play nontheless, another player cancelled. He seemed to have ignored email for several days so didn't know about the game. It never rains, it pours on me.
