Prestidigitations are minor tricks that novice spellcasters use for practice. Once cast, a prestidigitation spell enables you to perform simple magical effects for 1 hour. The effects are minor and have severe limitations. A prestidigitation can slowly lift 1 pound of material. It can color, clean, or soil items in a 1-foot cube each round. It can chill, warm, or flavor 1 pound of nonliving material. It cannot deal damage or affect the concentration of spellcasters. Prestidigitation can create small objects, but they look crude and artificial. The materials created by a prestidigitation spell are extremely fragile, and they cannot be used as tools, weapons, or spell components. Finally, a prestidigitation lacks the power to duplicate any other spell effects. Any actual change to an object (beyond just moving, cleaning, or soiling it) persists only 1 hour.

I think some have the impression that I'm in a dry spell right now -- nothing could be further from the truth (I'm in 4 groups right now).

But I was recently thinking about a long dry spell I had in my 20s -- I managed to run a one-on-one game for a while but no true gaming group for a long, long time. And was thinking about how it really depressed me because I was missing something in my life and didn't know how to fix it. It was ultimately my wife who encouraged me to find a group and get things going. This was about 10 years ago, before I really knew much if anything about the internet, and thus had no online option for playing or for discussing the hobby.
