Dude Where's My Ring? (DM: garyh, Judge: Ozymandias79)

Walking out of the harbormaster's office, Morvannon gazes to the right down the street, trying to get a sense of what lies that way.
You gaze to the right, and see that that's the direction to the passenger ships... with their ships' agents looking for customers along the head of the pier.

With a grin of triumpth, you head over to question the agents. After 30 minutes of showing Gwen's picture, and asking questions... you discover that no woman meeting her discription ever came trying to book passage. You also can't find a sailor who has heard of this "Isles" place that she's supposed to be from.

Kamotz takes a different approach to finding the young lady currently known as "Gwendolyn", he settles in while Morvannon questions the sailors and begins to place himself directly into the young ladies shoes. Hoping to piece together an accurate depiction of what she would do next.

If I were a young lady, Con-woman. I wouldn't want to be anywhere truly dangerous to my physical being, especially after a successful con. I have a new item of considerable value, so I want to be around people I can trust to protect myself and said item... My name is "Gwendolyn", but that is a lie... I am charming and beautiful... I am alone currently... I want to disguise myself, so I trade clothes with the closest person who doesn't know me, and won't remember me... I need to find a safe place to lay low, and I don't want to leave the island...

That's IT! Everyone gather round, I have an idea as to where she may have gone!

[sblock=OOC]Nice... that's our second critical success on this challenge. Just so y'all know these aren't being wasted...

...with Mikara's, I gave the following die rolls a bonus and eliminated one "failure".

...I'll probably do something similar with this one (it really depends on where the RP takes us).

“I commissioned that portrait on the day of our engagement...

We were strolling through ‘The Commons’…

We passed a street artist along the waterfront… he was really quite skilled…
as she posed for this, she chatted away with the artist as if they were old schoolchums..."

...And that is why we must find and question the charcoal sketch artist. Keeping in mind that if they are deeply enough involved, they may try to run.

Inspired by Kamotz's revelation, Mikara searches along the waterfront for the artist - carefully, though, heeding the shifter's advice.

[sblock=OOC]You guys would have to ask me questions about geography. I'm horrible with geography, but I can see the relevance so...

The artist is located in "The Commons", which is a district that bridges the gap between the wealthy and the slums... its not middle class, it's like the chocolate meeting the peanut butter in a Reeses... the two classes of society come together and just seem to work.

Gwendolyn's apartment is on the outskirts of the Commons, near the wealthy side (we'll just call it the North Tip for now)...

The Commons meets the working harbor (where you are now), on the south end (aka South Tip)...

The Commons stretches (more or less) eastward to eventually go through much rougher areas, these are the places where The Common's low-class inhabitants/workers usually squat...

I've gotta go to work for now, but more to come...[/sblock]

Morvannon listens to Kamotz's reasoning. "Good thinking, I'd forgotten about that. We do seem to have hit a dead end here. Well, if this artist is 'along the waterfront' he should be that way," pointing north. "I agree, we should try to be as discreet as we can."

Keep in mind that Stefan's Bakery won't be far from where the sketch artist was. I may have some bread as a matter of course, if it was as good as Reggie said...

The party makes its way north... away from the shoreman loading and offloading cargo from the ships... into a district where those wares are being openly peddled on the street, while peformers & artisans ply their trades for the amusement (and coin) of the peddlers' customers, where people in fine silks walk shoulder-to-shoulder with the unwashed masses... and the city watch seems to maintain a sharp eye, to keep the area safe enough for the continued patronage of the wealthy.

Mikara searches along the waterfront for the artist - carefully, though, heeding the shifter's advice.

[sblock=Mikara]Mikara is stunned as she makes her way through the throng. The street is as vibrant and alive as any jungle of plants & teeth... and just as potentially deadly. She passes with a wary predator's eye, she may not necesarily be familiar with this "jungle"... but the rules of wilderness survival are the same no matter where you hunt.

She breaks stealthily away from the rest of her new "plodding" pack, to survey the area. As you stalk the waterfront, you find that the diversity of its inhabitants is the asset you'll be able to use to pass unnoticed.

After a couple of quick passes of the waterfront, you fail to find a man working in this medium of burned wood that your companions call "charcoal"... you do, however, find that there is only one person in the area working with that material... in fact, it seems that there is only one streetperson working each craft in this area.

(OOC-in other words... only one juggler, one oil painter, one lutist, one 3-card monte dealer, etc...)

This form of territorialism stands out to Mikara's predatory nature, further confirming her instinct of this place's "wildness".[/sblock]
