Dude Where's My Ring? (DM: garyh, Judge: Ozymandias79)

Tristan coughs politely from behind Kamotz.

"I am here. I have been looking around myself, but have found little of interest. I have spotted neither our quarry nor any particular leads. As I understand it, you seek to lure the artist out by posing as competition.

If the artist finds out, it may indeed succeed. But we may need to seed the information as it were. Perhaps if before we even begin our deception, we spread rumors of a new artist? One far better than the usual sketcher. If there is a community who works to enforce these demarcations, they may find our artist for us."

Magnus came up behind the shifter from where ever he might have momentarily disappeared to, giving him a gentle rap with his staff.

Right here, right here...haven't gone addled have you? Hehehe.

The disheveled dwarf began to pace around Kamotz.

Every creator leaves their mark...on their creation. From the highest...to the lowest. What's that? Yes, yes...the marks are there for those you can see them...

Magnus stopped his pacing.

Why not simply...ask yon maker of marks, to be our eyes and see...what marks...whose marks...lay on the portrait of the ring and its Miss...

[sblock=ooc]

Was kind of waiting for everyone to get their chance to do their thing.

Anyway, maybe the easiest course of action would be to approach the woman artist, and ask if she recognizes whose work the portrait we have might be.

Kamotz nearly jumps out of his robes when Tristan coughs, and his face reads a blank stupid look, as if he can't understand how Tristan could sneak up on him.

Worse still after facing Tristan, Magnus' staff rapping him sends him into a tizzy, knocking him prone, and leaving him even more dumbfounded.

You two are worse than Deaths own lurkers!

Kamotz stands and brushes himself off, taking stock of where the two stand.

Well, I don't see how the mixture of plans and back ups could fail. First someone simply asks, if that fails, an other of us begins spreading rumor of the new artist, if that doesn't attract that which we desire, the artist (Mikara) shows up and begins marking territory, and if that still hasn't brought about our success...

Kamotz lets the implication hang in the air, even though he isn't sure what he truly means.

If only I were a bit smarter I wouldn't be constantly making a fool of myself in front of people... Maybe I should be more quite, it certainly works for Tristan, he is intimidating just standing there... Magnus' madness must be getting to me, maybe he is right and I am addled... Oh someone's talking!

Kamotz listens closely pretending he hasn't faded from the conversation just by trying to think.

[sblock=OOC] Thanks for the great suggestions guys! Try it out, I'm really at a loss here. [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC to All]Sorry that I vanished for a bit... RL had me delayed, and the site just ate my last attempt at a post.

So it seems we have a few options on the table:
1) Lure out the quarry with a ruse...

2) Ask around about your quarry...

3) Start a rumor that there is new competition for your quarry on the street...

4) Check the artist's signature on the sketch...

5) ...or some combination of the above.

They all sound good, just let me know which direction you want to go... BTW:
You've succeeded at making the charcoal, so if you set up you're booth you are ready...

Also, your group has started to attract some attention from passerby on the street, so it wouldn't be difficult to spin that into your rumor...

Having successfully created an artistic implement, Mikara begins to sketch a scene on Kamotz's parchment.

"If you parles with our competitor.
Do so at once and let me play my part.
I suggest we execute all our plans,
and, as for me, I will produce the art."

Mikara sets to work, depicting a waterfront district overgrown with trees, ferns and vines where satyrs and wild boars are sitting, smartly dressed, sipping tea at tables, while humans, halflings, and tieflings swing naked from the trees (she does keep it PG).

[sblock=OOC:]Do I need a skill check for this? If so, I'll leave it up to the DM as to which skill is appropriate[/sblock]

*good ideas all. wonder why none of them were yours.*

*Oh please shut it.*

A brief spasm of annoyance crosses Morvannon's face as his eyes flash a deeper shade of green.

Taking a quick breath, he says, "I've heard it said that sometimes the simplest plan is the best. Magnus, that was a great idea. Watch my back, please -- I don't know how she'll react."

He takes an indirect route crossing the square to the artist's stall, timing his approach so as to arrive just as a satisfied customer leaves with a new portrait. "Excuse me, miss. I was hoping to find the artist who sketched this for a friend of mine. Judging by your work," he said gesturing at the displayed samples, "you could easily have done this, but I was told specifically that it was a man. Would you perchance recognize this style?"

Morvannon unfolds the portrait of Gwendolyn, a look of (hopefully) honest curiosity on his face.

Having successfully created an artistic implement, Mikara begins to sketch a scene on Kamotz's parchment.
As Mikara begins her work, she catches sight of three street urchins watching her. They spend a couple of minutes talking to each other, as they watch... then they suddenly dart off into the crowd.
*"Excuse me, miss.

She looks at the picture briefly, and answers before thinking about the words coming out of her mouth... "Oh, that would be one of Vinnie's... but if you're interested in Gwenyth, then you'll probably need to talk to his older brother Dennis..." She stops speaking suddenly, and goes white as a sheet upon realizing what she just said. "I... I..." her hand reaches out subconsciously toward a rack of 'works for sale', and she starts moving to be between it and you.

Magnus meandered after Morvannon in answer to his request for backup. He wandered aimlessly past the artist while his companion asked about the portrait. Magnus was listening carefully however, all the more so as her demeanor changed. As she moved, he slipped around to where it seemed likely should would go if she tried to run, trying to anticipate her next action. Was she upset with herself, or afraid of this Dennis?

[Sblock=Return of the Judge!]I'm back and caught up! Thanks for keeping an eye on things, Lord Sessadore! This game is definitely a fun one to watch unfold.[/sblock]

[sblock=Look to my coming on the fifth day, at dawn look to the east...]Heehee, I couldn't resist. Conveniently enough, you were gone for about 5 days, weren't you?

Not a problem, it was a pleasure. :)

I have to say, you guys have come up with some rather ingenious solutions to your "find the artist" problem! I'm impressed.[/sblock]
