Dungeon #112 has arrived

Oh, another question: where is the Beastial cleric domain from, and the spell whirlwind of teeth? Are these from Complete Divine?

Both the domain and the spell are from Savage Species, I believe.

Also wanted to add my praise. Got the mag yesterday, read through the whole thing in eight hours or so. Excellent stuff: I'm going to run it as soon as I get a chance!

Well, we forgot a tiny little sidebar. Both the Bestial domain and the spell whirlwind of teeth are from the Book of Vile Darkness. The Bestial domain grants a character scent as an extraordinary ability.

Whirlwind of teeth is Bestial 7, Sor/Wiz 7. Its casting time is 1 action, its area is 5-ft./;eve; radius cylinder 10ft./level high. Range is Medium. Duration is 1 round/level. Save is Reflex half, and spell resistance applies.

The spell summons a column of teeth that deal 1d8 points of damage for every two caster levels (max. 10d8). The column moves at the caster's direction (as a free action) and has a speed of 40.

I'm doing everything in my power to summon some more FR modules. Just put the finishing touches on the one for 113 this afternoon, and will try to have another within the next few issues. I'm planning for something "big" in that regard, but it's too early to discuss in public, yet.

I'm not satisfied by the number of FR modules we've had in the magazine lately. I think it's reasonable to expect one every three or four issues, but I inherited a submission pile with one FR adventure in it, so it may take us a while to collect an adequate number of adventures to match that pace.

I hope any forgotten realm adventures you publish are easilly "neutralized." I don't have much use for the realms, and sidebars that help out DMs who (for example) haven't the slightest idea of how the Red Wizards are organized are helpfull when such an organization plays an important part in the adventure. The more self contained the module, the better.

Allthough it was fun to find myself (as a pc) in Athkatla, the capital of Amn in one Dungeon module. [I'm probably spelling all of that incorrectly, I know.] When I realized where we were, my first thought was "Hey! I've been here before, in Baldurs Gate II!" My second though was "$@#!@#! Does my mage need to buy some really expensive license to practice magic here?" Since none of us knew more about that than was presented in the computer game, we all decided to ignore it...

Mr. Mona-

Regarding #112: this is the best Dungeon I have yet read. It is genuinely great stuff, even without the "retro" factor. There are some seriously clever tricks and traps in the module, and the NPCs are interesting.

After my post last night, I got to thinking about what Dungeon issues I have most enjoyed. There is certainly the "retro" factor in conversions, but even without that I like the modules with a sense of backstory and history. For instance, I think that the Dark Sun issue was great- and I have never read the original Dark Sun books! I also really liked the Incursion issue, because of the epic (in the sense of large, not high-level) feel. I know that the new three-module format is a done-deal, and there are good reasons for it. But, even within that format, I think that including some of those extra "story" elements might be a good idea, especially for the mid- and high-level adventures. If some of the setting-specific and/or conversion modules can fit- even once or twice a year- so much the better. Can I make my pitch now for a cool Ravenloft adventure??? :D Thanks for doing such great work! I really like the magazine.

I finally got my copy of Dungeon #112. One word:

BOO-YAH!

Or is that two words? Whatever.

The Terrible Iron Golem is still the Baddest. Villain. Evar.

Eli Tomorast 4-evuh.

Peace out.

I got a copy yesterday and so far I love it. I was up until 4:30 am last night reading, (though that might have something to do with catching up on reading various forums as well).
