Anyway, thanks for the answer. I'm curious where you say your artists probably don't play D&D -- from what I've seen of Dungeon and Dragon both, the artists you use are usually the same ones over and over again, and many of them also freelance for WotC -- don't they know the D&D conventions pretty well by now? Most of them anyway?

Certainly the majority of our artists are familiar with the conventions of D&D, but it's a lot of info to keep in mind. And we often use new artists in the magazines as well. I certainly don't expect all our artists to keep up to date on all the rules; that's just asking too much.

Where's Eric Lofgren these days, anyone know? I specifically remember him knowing the rules for D&D. Even having written up a submission to a little fanzine.
