Dungeon 149

Shroomy

Adventurer
On an off chance, I visited Borders today and found a copy of Dungeon 149. I don't have much time to read it right now, but I wanted to post some of the goodies within....

You know all about the adventures, so I thought I'd post the CW articles:

Dungeoncraft - "Handling Epic Good Guys."
CW The City - "Cons and Swindles" by Russell Brown - a collection of grifters and their cons.
CW Wandering Monster - The Black Willow, CR 10 plant monster from 1e MMII. Congrats Boz and Shade on another conversion!

Other new monsters: Charon, the Stygian Linnorm

BTW, the FR realms adventure is for 10th level characters, not 1st level characters like the previous teaser said...

Next Month: Kill Bargle by Jason Buhlman, Quoth the Raven by Nicholas Logue, and the PRince of Demons by Greg A Vaughan...It will also include a full Dungeon index, a poster-sized Map of Mystery that reveals the locations of dozens of previous Maps of Mysteries on a brand new World of Mystery by Chris West along with the long awaited foruth part of his delve Map of Mystery, the fiend-sage of Rel Astra, the conclusion to Downer, one more yugoloth, rules for bar fights and walls that come to life, and a special goodbye from the Dungeon staff.

Dungeon #149

You know I could problably handle the end of these magazines better if the last few issues were not so damn good.

War of The Wielded (1st-5th): This is why I read these magazines! Just for the idea of sentient magical weapons crafted for a war that ended centuries ago, manipulating their weilders to continune the battle.

Twisted Night (6th-12th): A vilage in the Forgtten Realms has become deserted and the land is becomeing blighted. Could you go see why?

Enemies of my Enemy (13th-20th): Whoa, remember when Kolbolds were a serious threat?
Guest staring Iggwilv, Orcus, Charon and Malcanthet. Hard to imagine how they will end this adventure path.

Dungeoncraft: Handling Epic Good Guys, Cons and Swindles and a monster; Black Willow

Next Month: Kill Bargle (yeah, Red Box D&D, that Bargle)
Quoth the Raven (sequal to Chimes at Midnight from issue#133)
Prince of Demons (DC50 Will check not to buy it for this adventure alone)
Dungeon Index #1 to #150
Poster sized Map of Mystery

Orcus (CR32) gets almost a full two page spread.

Thantos, Everlost and the Halls of the Rise Dead also fill almost two pages, but Everlost just gets a brief description. Most of the focus is on the enviorment of Thanatos and the throne room of Orcus.

Any chance of a brief rundown of War of the Wielded? What the weapons are, how the PCs get involved, etc? If my Dungeon gets here in time I'm planning to run this as a sideplot in my current campaign, and it'd be handy to be able to lay some groundwork now...

Warren Mahy illustrated Orcus (both times) in this issue.

Orcus is indeed fat. (I assume he's who you were asking about, not the artist.)

This does sound like a great idea for an adventure or even as an ongoing campaign thread.

Alright, finally! I was wondering when someone was gonna get the new issue!

Could we get some information on the Stygian Linnorm? Maybe CR and an idea of its abilities?

Great, now I have this image of Orcus on his throne;
"You can face my champion Fiendish Death Giants in the arena or...

....tell me if these pants make me look fat?"

The War of the Weilded starts with a PC finding one of the weapons. The weapons are all unique with different lesser powers ana few with greater powers. The exact type and nature could spoil the adventure, but you could easily adjust most of their weapon types to tease the PCs.

This would make a great Eberron adventure, with the weapons left over from the last war.
