Dungeon and Dragon submission guidelines are up

Regarding sending rejected proposals to Wizards of the Coast: I totally would. Different editorial department, different tastes. Not sending a query Paizo rejected to Wizards of the Coast is essentially the same thing as not asking out Girl B because Girl A rejected you.

Wait, you can do that? Why didn't you tell us this years ago? :p

It might seem odd to you that I would be helping answering these questions, but keep in mind that Paizo and Wizards of the Coast are still friends and business partners. I honestly wish Chris and his staff the best of luck with their endeavors. (And, yes, I sent in a couple submissions as well... he he he...)

Ninja-, hexblade-, or psionics-related by any chace? ;)

Samples follow the template. The first few samples show one-page tactical encounters for rooms in a dungeon. Outdoor areas use the same sorts of headers and information hierarchy, but the “Features” header changes as shown in the two-page samples. The last few samples show two-page tactical encounters that occur in outdoor areas.

Am I missing something? I see no samples after the template.

[Edit] Just received a reply:

Samples will be up shortly.

Thanks!

So... you're Girl A (Paizo, not you personally Mike :D ) and WotC's Girl B... um... what if my wife finds out? :)

Damn, so busy! Now I need to somehow send in queries to WotC, too. Gotta go! :D

I did. But nobody listened to me before I started working for Paizo.

Oh I'm sure those sorts of things will be coming from me sometime down the line. My first queries, though, were about other IP.

Believe me, my friend, in my life I've been called a lot worse than "Girl A." :D

And if your wife finds out remember the tried-and-true response men have been using for millennia: feign innocence and lie your brains out*.

...

* Please note, neither Mike nor Girl A condones the actual application of this strategy.

Wow... That's highly unlikely. Sure they have more people at Wizards of the Coast than we do at Paizo, but they don't have THAT many...

Umm, I'm suggesting putting up 4 to 5 modules per month as opposed to 3. Instead of having to fit each module to the page of a magazine and all that entails, they could put each one up as a separate .pdf.

I'm not suggesting a much faster schedule that Paizo was capable of. I don't see this as all that unlikely at all.

Hrm... Now I am starting to get worried. Hasn't been a full 24 hours yet, but it's coming up on it, and I've yet to receive a single acknowledgment... :\

Got 'em. :)

And how sad is it that I took a four-hour nap earlier today, due to having a nasty headache... during which I dreamed that my submissions were all rejected!! :uhoh: :heh: :o

So you are. When you put it that way (i.e., make it easier for those of us whose math skills led them to lives as editors) it makes much more sense to me. :D

And yes, it probably is within the realms of possibility. :)

(Heh, like how I'm volunteering them for more work? :D )

I put it to you that you didn't dream all your submissions got rejected, you nightmared all your submissions got rejected. ;)

In my real life job as a newspaper reporter, we've definitely been enjoying putting up stories as soon as they're "finished" (with updates later, as needed) instead of waiting for them to be compiled and published in a hard copy.

BUT ... to say that more stories could go up each month than could get published in a hard copy is to suggest that the people who would otherwise be involved with printing it would instead have the time (and skill set) to get additional articles ready for publication. Unless Paizo had their editors doing this (which is unlikely, at least in my experience in the print media), it's not likely WotC has the surplus manhours for this; instead, they just don't have those people in their department at all, since they're not needed.
