We call this the slush pile as did Paizo. Chris Thommason is charged with reviewing the slush pile that Paizo handed off to us several months ago. He is going through all these submissions and will contact the writers whose proposals have made it to the next stage in the same way as we have outlined in the new submissions guidelines.

Hey Scott, just how big was the slush pile that Paizo handed over? I've always wondered at how big their backlog really was.

I have no idea but when I ask Chris Thommason about it he just rolls his eyes and shakes his head so I guess it is big.

Heh. BOZ and I have a couple yugoloth queries in as well. Do you guys want to form a supergroup?

If you guys form a Yugoloth Super Team, my head will explode from the sheer awesomeness of the sort of material you all will come up with :D

BWA HA HA HA HA!

Freaking awesome. Who knew Keith was so vindictive...but at least you get letters from him. All I got was a restraining order.

Scott,

This Rodney Thomson fellow is driving me nuts. Can't you find him some freelance work or something so he'll stop bothering me?

Thanks,
Keith

Keith,

Is it that bad? If it is, then maybe we can do something about it. Is he obsessed with anything enough that if I put him on it, he'll leave you alone?

Scott,

Yes, it is that bad. I've got an intern working full time just to get rid of mail, email, and scare him away from the door. As to the other, I heard he runs some Star Wars site, and doesn't that game need updating anyway? Check into it.

Thanks,
Keith

Keith,

You were right. Pounced on the offer right away. Didn't even ask about pay. Now all we have to do is convince Lucas to green-light a revision.

I shudder to think how big the slush pile is. I imagine there was a time period where they had all the material for the final issues but couldn't tell anybody yet they were going away. I think this was about the time all the "Paizo's black hole" threads started showing up...

Hmmm..wonder if I'll get email from Wizards for the queries I never heard back on (which were at least 3 maybe 4...)

Did anyone else notice this little blurb tucked away in the submission guidelines (emphasis mine):

Dragon/Dungeon Submission Guidelines said:
If you’re familiar with the recent print versions of Dragon® and Dungeon® magazines, you should have a very good idea of the types of articles we’re interested in. New feats, spells, monsters, races, and alternative class features all make an excellent basis for articles. We’re also looking for new Ecology articles and Demonomicon articles, as well as articles tied to specific products released recently. Be clear and concise in your proposal, and follow the template below so we can get a good, accurate picture of your idea.

Joy! More Demonomicon articles! I just hope that James Jacobs isn't too busy with Pathfinder these days to crank out more for WotC. :D

In the meantime, I need to put together my article proposal (and bemoan not being able to join the Mighty Writin' Yugoloth Rangers, or whatever they call themselves ;) ).

Gmail first went online in 2004. 3 years ago. At the time it was invitation only.
Small nitpick!
Sorry, no points. Not an error.
Rick Miller revised them a few years ago, when he took over. That's his email. Those are the current guidelines, just pulled from the site. I wrote the original version (complete with "wait patiently") when I was editor, or assistant editor...nine years ago (my first issues, working with some guy named Erik Mona, were in '98...)

For anyone else that has sent in something to submissions@wizards, have you gotten that automated confirmation email for anything sent in? I haven't yet, so I'm wondering if the mails bounced or if the confirmation emails have some snag.

My guess is that they were inundated as soon as the guidelines went up--I myself have sent over half a dozen queries :heh:--and that the system's just taking time to catch up.
