[Dungeon] Dungeon/Polyhedron Goes Monthly

The answer is simple. I buy Dungeon because it gives me a library of adventures to keep my D&D campaign running each and every week on schedule.

Ditto. I subscribe, and I'm relatively neutral on the change.

So long as I keep getting the same (or more!) straight D&D adventure content in Dungeon, I won't complain.

I could care less about Poly. There was a day when I flitted from system to system and game to game. I eventually discovered that what I liked best was good ol' European medievel fantasy D&D -- and now that's all I do.

Spin Poly back off into a d20 'zine, would be fine with me. Or keep it. Monthly/bimonthyl -- whatever. Just don't cut back my *real* Dungeon content.

I recently received my copy of Dungeon/Poly. Suprisingly, the information regarding this change within its covers was slim. I expected more information, rather than less, within the publication than was released on this board. No mention was made regarding the number of issues subscribers will receive. Again, clarification from the publisher on this point should be made.

Additionally, while the Poly editor discussed the alternating month content chnage, no mention was made regarding the additional Dungeon subscriber supplement previously discussed by Mr. Wilson on this board. Has this idea been sidelined?

I am ambivilent regarding the change from bi-montly to monthly, but I, liek many other posters, would like to know what I will receive from the publisher in the future.

Squeeky WHeel?

i recently received my copy of Dungeon (last week really) and noticed it was still in the bimonthly format.

today, however, i got a real big surprise.

Thanks Chris or Erik or the other Chris or Johnny or i don't know who.

the sentiment was much appreciated, i guess.

and the work is well done for the format.

but a d20 book?

yeah, i know it works with D&D. but please try and remember i enjoy "real" D&D. the Original Version. the one prior to the A being added.:p

Now if Poly moves to more useful articles (as some have said they used to be in the past) in the 1/3 poly issues then it might make the 2/3 Dungeon 1/3 poly even more valuable to me. This would include the living greyhawk section that used to be in Dragon. It seems though that the plan is for the Mini-Games to be in the 2/3 poly issues and expanded to fill the extra space. For the reasons above this means that those issues will continue to have no value to me, while decreasing the value of the Dungeon portion beyond my acceptable limit for adventures.
Well, if they have articles for Star Wars and d20 Modern I'd go for it.

But I also like the mini-game. Whether I play with it, or use some of the new rules presented in the mini-game, they are useful to me.

A few questions to part with for you in return. What is the Poly subscriber after? Was the choice to devote so much effort to min-games pressure from the readers or mearly an editorial choice? If the readers want min-games then the next question is moot, but did you consider droping the mini-games and going to a monthly 2/3 Dungeon 1/3 Poly 100 page monthly all the time? If you went this way I would buy every issue instead of every other.
Then I, a Poly reader, have no use for the magazine at all, if it's going to be 2/3 Dung and 1/3 Poly every month. This reader who started picking up Dung/Poly last is going to drop Dung/Poly if that is the case this year.

In fact, if the case were reversed, you'd feel the same way, too.

The only difference between you and I? I can tolerate and condone the alternating format.

Why the huge increase in Poly coverage compared to before with little to no increase in the Dungeon coverage? How large (percentages will do) was each portion of the combined readership base before? Is there some evidence that such a lopsided benefit to only one part of you magazine will increase your readership?
I honestly don't know. But if someone wants to put up a poll, let's see. Of course, to be fair, there should be three choices:

1. I like the Dung part of the magazine more
2. I like the Poly part of the magazine more
3. I like both Dung and Poly equally.

Guys,

At this point, a poll like this serves no purpose. The path is clear. We know what we're doing, and we're confident that the change will be popular. Nothing anyone says in this thread on one side of the issue or the other will change the overall plan one iota. The deed is done.

If you don't care for the new monthly format, vote with your wallet.

Arrgh! Not again. This has been debated ad nauseum... spare us please.

Just because something is fixed in stone doesn't mean there arn't those of us who are interested in talking about it. I would be interested in what my fellow enworlders thought of the combined mags whether or not it changes anything.

By the way, this is not a question of whether we feel anything should be changed but rather what part we find more useful. There is no need to get defensive. And shouldn't you care what parts your readers find useful whether you are planning any changes or not.

Im glad you're sticking to your decision but it's bound to please some and anger others. Personally, I look forward to the change despite the inclusion of fantasy material in Polyhedron.:). BTW, how much will the new subscription cost be? I believe I asked this before in this thread and did'nt get a answer

I will if we end this discussion and lock this thread up.

They made the decision and it is final. I for one am glad for the new format. So Dung readers have better get used to us Poly readers.
