Jeeze... Guess I won't be using that version of her. She's a wimp. I mean, this is the lich-queen of the Githyanki that has ruled for thousands of years, has a pact with Tiamat, and controls red dragons on a whim. This adventure is a sad joke. She ain't got nothing but a lot of hype and an over-paid PR department.

[Dr.Evil]

She should have gazillion bazillion levels!!

[/Dr.Evil]

I think that in an adventure whose aim is to destroy the Lich-Queen the Lich Queen should be, well, destroyable. And i'm annoyed by the one-upmanship (D&D Geek #1: Orcus is this powerful! D&D Geek #2 Nah, Orcus is this powerful.. etc.) that has led to the point that some of the stats for demon lords are quite ridiculous.

Maybe the Lich Queens low level (by your standards) is the reason she kills of all Githyankis of 17th or higher level.. otherwise they'd kick her ass like the 18th level adventurers in dungeon #100! ;)

Guess so.:D

I guess it's just my opinion that such figures ("Iconic Villains", so to speak) make for poor adventure antagonists. For instance, a quest to slay the Githyanki Lich-Queen would, for me, be a campaign-ending event, the culmination of years of adventuring. I'm all for WotC (and anyone else) making such beings ultra-high level; I just hate such beings used in a manner as to be low level (in relation to setting) and included in "any ol' adventure." Considering her "role" in the default setting, I'd say she got sold the short end.

But that's me.

I suppose the task isn't exactly impossible. I mean, there's a couple combinations and spells at this level which would work pretty well.

A cleric with the Sun domain and either Glory Prestige domain or Luck domain as well as the Empower Turning feat from DotF (Or whichever is the one where you subtract 1 damage from the turning check in order to increase your roll by +1) can gain a +15 bonus to his Turning roll, and activate the Sun domain (making the loss to damage dice irrelevant), and then attempt to destroy her outright (using the Luck domain if he rolls bad).

If that fails, said cleric and a wizard in the group can use Mass Haste (3.0 version at least) to cast 4 Sunbursts at her. If said Wizard was an Incantrix, both of his Sunbursts can be maximized for effect, and he gains a +2 bonus to penetrate her SR (since Githyanki are outsiders). Both Spell Power from the Archmage PrC and Greater Spell Penetration feats would be helpful as well (since Githyanki have an SR of 5+level I believe).

But these characters seem basically tailored to fight undead so they probably won't be the ones fighting the Lich Queen. I would suggest using Disruption weapons if possible though, even high level undead have sucky Fortitude saves.

Edit-After killing her, I'd suggest teleporting to her corpse, grabbing the artifacts, then teleporting out of there to regroup and begin preparing for an angry lich queen reforming if you can't find her phylactery.

Hi all! :)

Sounds like an interesting adventure (one I might send my characters lackeys* on :p )

*Lets just say my characters lackeys are tough. ;)

However, it does seem that its been tailored for the benefit of 18th-level characters rather than credibly outline one of the mainstays of the cosmos, the Githyanki Lich Queen.

Her relatively weak power determined under 1st Ed. auspices seems somewhat lacking given the propensity for epic characters and her power and status.

I mean its a wonder no one has bumped her off before now!? :D

I thought that the lich queen killed any githyanki of 11th level or less.

Also, I'd put the fact that she's not been bumped off before now down to the fact that she seems to be quite a diplomat. The whole 'red dragon' thing is some sort of interdimensional treaty after all, isn't it?

I mean - is every single monarch in your entire campaign a high-level character, just to stop himself from being bumped off?

Finally - since the D&D multiverse is made up of an infinite number of infinite planes, that means that no matter what level you put someone at, there's someone else who's higher level, and could whack them with a moments attention. So saying that the lich queen should be more powerful than 25th level because otherwise someone will kill her is a bit silly. Even if you put her at level 10000, there will be SOMEONE out there at level 100000...

25th level and having lare ammounts of real estate on the astral plane makes you real hard to get to.

Aaron.

I always love hearing the fan-trite of those more interested in having products accomodate the world in their head as oppossed to something that can actually be played and enjoyed socially.. Funny :)

She sounds about the right challenge level for a party of 18th level characters. A tough fight, but a good challenge.

Where is everyone getting this "history" for a lich queen from? Was this an obscure reference somewhere from 1st Edition (like the Fiend Folio)? Were there ever stats published on her before?

Also, isn't is said in some product that the current lich queen may be simply the 3rd or so person to take the title? Course, she still should probably be a bit more powerful, but being a high level lich anyways it's hard to keep her down after you kill her.
