Dungeon Tiles, Maps and things of that nature...

To be honest, I hadn't thought about it. But now that you mention it, a ton of ideas come to mind - very cool, thank you! hehe.

So, to answer the question... yea, I could do that - it would be fun.

Yea, if I go ahead with this idea I have formulating, then I would not be sticking strictly to Fantasy. With that said, I'm not a Sci-Fi pro by any means and I would definately be looking for suggestions on not only maps that are needed, but what should be included in them.

I really should get a site going.

I think if you take a look at Fat Dragons website, and their sci fi line, you'll quickly see what style to try and match up with. Heck, maybe you should e-mail Tom and see if you can work out some kind of partnership. He may even need some help and afford to hire you if you can use the same software he has.

Well I was thinking sci-fi maps. But also some 'modern' and 'scenario' tiles would be nice too. What I mean by scenario tiles is a gridded-out floor plan of boats, space craft, caravan wagons, cars, and so forth.

I enjoy using mini-scaled maps for my game, but I am running AoW so I either need to make my own with Dundjinni or get someone to make them for me.

I would use mini-scale maps that I can print out on 11x17 paper - rooms, portions of dungeons, etc. If there was a re-usable location, I might consider doing it on a large format printer at Kinkos.

Mostly though, I use maps for inspiration and for keeping track of things as DM, and so I don't need them at that scale.

I have tons of the Wizards tiles, plus tiles from Fat Dragon, Skeleton Key and others, plus terrain from World Works, Fat Dragon and others, and I love good maps/tiles. However, I'm the opposite of Treebore and Galladian - I want my maps to use with minis, and like them in minis-scale or or least printable with good quality at minis-size. I use tiles when I can't use maps, and then use pen/vinyl battlemat when I can't use either.

Love maps. Love 'em. Your site is great and it's the type of stuff I really like (and use). Same with much of WotC's old Map-A-Week feature (and their new - if rarely used - map feature in Dungeon).

Not at all (sometimes it's even a minus if it has affected the map's design in any way). I much much prefer to draw out any maps onto my erasable battlemat.

Do you specifically look for things that print to a certain scale, or are you basically looking for dungeon layout ideas that you can then re-draw as players progress through them (on a white board for instance) without revealing the rest of the dungeon to them?
The second (re-draw).

Great feedback so far, thanks a lot ;)

One more important question (with a second part) I forgot to ask...

How important is it (to you/your group) that dungeon maps you get/download print out at appropriate sizes to use minis on?

Do you specifically look for things that print to a certain scale, or are you basically looking for dungeon layout ideas that you can then re-draw as players progress through them (on a white board for instance) without revealing the rest of the dungeon to them?

Thanks guys/gals - much appreciated ;)

Not all that important, but it's a nice feature. I can do math, I can scale the images from whatever to minis friendly size. My only concern, 5 foot squares only, don't use 10' squares... makes making a grid harder. I can't seem to get into your site currently, but when I can I'll take a look at what you have.

i dont use maps, and never used.

but i never used miniatures, and now, its like a new "color" to the game, and we enjoyed very much!

i tryied to play some lotr miniatures, and yo have (well, you dont "have" to) tomake terrain 3d ans stuff.

but i prefer not to use, and let play the "realms of imagination :P"

as a matter of fact, i use a little blackboard that i have, if i have to draw some route, trees or anything. just remembered..ehehe

Great feedback everyone, again I appreciate it.

I'm going to drop one more question in here for you...

I have this idea and am told by some friends (who are willing to help) that we could do this pretty easily but I want to see what you think first (I'll be getting feedback on this elsewhere as well)...

It's a "would you use this, find this interesting, etc" question...

A site where you to put together a PDF from pre-existing pages (basically).

So for example, if you wanted to follow the format of some PDF adventures in creating your own you could...

1/ Choose a cover page from various templates
2/ Choose a background image (from many) for all of the pages in the PDF
3/ Choose a "back" image for a closing page

Once chosen, you could go in and add content (words and images) to them via form fields and then export it as a PDF -- all web based.

Another example (maybe more appealing to those of you in this thread)...

You could just grab a dungeon for the first page and a "dungeons details" page for the second leaving it blank and filling it in after you print it, etc.

The idea would be that you could put together adventures that have the look/feel of published (PDF) adventures, etc but you just provide the content and keep the PDF for use/printing anytime. Or you could simply grab a dungeon - it can be as detailed or simple as you want.

The site would save these (anything created of 2 or more pages probably) in your account and even publish them on the site catagorizing them by the dungeon/location used so people could look at them, vote/rate them, etc (unless you check a box not allowing that).

Anyway, it's an idea I'm tossing around with a few others.

Does this sound appealing?

Would you ues it do you think? Why/Why Not?

Thanks again - that's the last question (for this thread) ;)
