No good choice for me. I'm 38, first played using the Basic Set in 1980, and I am undecided about 4e. I like some of the things I've seen and am a little worried about others. I will probably remain undecided until I get to see the whole package in June.

Aside from the fact that WOTC may have better market data than we have, the real question for them is how many more books was left in the current edition. I suspect not many, so the 70 % making the switch is a gain and some of that 30% may be won over in time.
This is true. I like 3.5, but I haven't bought a 3.5 book for a couple of years now. I just don't need any more books - I can play just fine with what I have. I will probably buy at least the 4E core books, though.

And I'm in the 26-35 group, started with BX, then moved on to 1E and BECMI.

It appears we've discovered a correlation between age and resistance to change.

Or, perhaps, a correlation between age and an increasing ability to differentiate between good change and bad change.

:p

Now we are starting to see the Grognardism setting in.

So pathetic. Can't folks just have a different opinion?

Grognard!

Fanboi!

Grow up, all of you.
(And by 'All of you', of course I mean both groups of rabid elitists. Those of you with sense, feel free to ignore me. ;))

I'm 34, I've started with BECMI and played a lot of AD&D 1st Edition (which I'm also currently running).

I like the look of 4e so far and I'll buy it. I hope to play or (more likely) to run it next summer.

You forgot OD&D, BX and BECMI, but since 4th edition is is the 4th edition of AD&D, I voted 1E (which I started playing a few years after BECMI, and about a year before discovering 2E).
qft.

i am over 35 and Original Dungeons & Dragons was the game i played first and continue to play and enjoy.

edit: which would be the edition before both Advanced and Basic.
