I'm saying that it's better not to assume.
On what basis do you say that? If an assumption suggested by the context is true, why assume that ignoring the context and Turing a true statement into a lie is a better reading? One always have to make assumptions when interpretatomg a text created by another mind, that's the nature of reading.

Which requires your premise to hold. Since it doesn't, this statement is moot.
So you admit that it is true if you grant the premise. Gold enough, thanks, I'll leave it to others if they think the clear premise is obvious to them. Since you haven't made any attempt to provide an example showing that there is a similar text previously...

You're the one making a positive assertion, i.e. that your assumption is not only correct, but that you can demonstrate why that's so. To date, you haven't done this. All you've done is make a bland assertion as to "context," which is that it's presented as part of the ad copy for a reference encyclopedia to justify that it's claim to being the first official title is meant to indicate that it's the first reference encyclopedia. This does not follow; simply being presented as part of the ad copy for a book doesn't mean that it's claim to being the first such official title is really just the first kind of official title. One is a sweeping reference to an entire category, and the other is a reference to a fairly narrow slice of that category. That alone does not justify your assumption.
So you admit that it is true if you grant the premise.
No, you simply positing that comparison requires the premise; hence, you're reading an "admission" that doesn't exist, which isn't surprising given that you're also seeing assumptions in the text itself that don't exist. At least you're consistent like that. 🤷‍♂️

That would require granting that your assumption is valid, and since you can't do that, your presumption that there needs to be another reference encyclopedia for the statement to be false is itself false.

Yes, since if the simple act of critical reading makes it a true statement, it seems a probable reading. Can you provide any counter example that makes it false?

You're wildly misstating what "critical reading" is in this context, much like how you're misinterpreting what "official title" means for no good reason.
Can you provide any counter example that makes it false?
The falsification comes from pointing out that your request for a comparison is based on invalid criteria, i.e. the redefinition of "official title" that you made up.

What a surprise: the "WotC cannot do a single thing right" crowd is rules lawyering ad copy as further proof of WotC's ineptitude.
Not nearly as much of a surprise: that certain people are descending into tribalism over what they perceive as an attack on a corporation that they're inordinately fond of.

So, about the actual book?
Seems okay, though I'm going to wait for it to be discounted before picking it up (which seems like it happens fairly regularly for these kinds of D&D books; Worlds & Realms is currently sitting at an oddly-specific 57% off for a new copy at Amazon, Lore & Legends is 58% off, etc.).
