Dungeonscape ToC

Look up Factotum in the Character Class Index on WotC's site.

It specifically states: "The factotum can mimic the abilities of others and fill in when the need is greatest."

Jason Bulhman did state that they completely changed around everything he wrote for the "Journeyman", the name he gave it when he wrote the class up. Damn R&D to the Nine Hells, they're the real reason most of the books are screwed up recently.

So we have a class that does what a prestige class can already do? Anyone remember the Chameleon from Races of Destiny? I hope the two mesh well instead of it being a darn PrC-turned-class.....

And, yes, I agree. Stupid name. Journeyman sounds way better in comparison.

I am interested in the new templates. A new template to me means a million more monsters! :D

Yeah, neither factotum nor journeyman are really inspiring class names; they sound more like NPC classes. I can't say what a better name would be, though, until I see what the class can actually do. I am a little leery of the description, but that's all it is, a description...

So far the environment series has yet to dissapoint. I expect the same from Dungeonscape. It will be mine.

There was one.....Cityscape.

You know a book is really bad when the sidebars did the book more justice than the rest of the text did. :p

Cityscape was the weakest thus far but there was still plenty of inspiration in there that I found useful..

Well after taking a look at the finished Factotum, I am actually pretty pleased with how it turned out. I think it goes well with the Chameleon Pclass, as they both have some things in common, but both also offer abilities that the other does not.

That said.. I am very pleased to see people excited about this book (especially rot grubs... I could not resist bringing those back).

I think it only sounds stupid if you don't already know the meaning of the word and are not used to it.

Nah, it's kinda like naming a class "handyman" or "administrative assistant."

I wonder what other names they considered. "Adventurer" is probably too generic, plus they already have a Complete book by that name. "Dungeoneer" might have worked, but that seems too narrow for a base class.

Wow - no new spells! First WotC book in a long time to not have them.
That actually disappoints me, since I find that new spells (particularly in the hands of sorcerer NPCs) to be a really easy way to drop in new content. Given how creative the new spells in Dragon Magic and Complete Mage were, I was hoping to see some of these new postmodern D&D spells in Dungeonscape. Hopefully the next books will have them!
