I've had it since Xmas and am just starting to get my hands dirty with it. I really like it. If you're looking to make grid maps where you can set all your minis up for good combat, there is no better program. The cost seemed prohibitive to me at the start, but it is a quality program. It's a drag and drop interface with levels so you can handle your floors different than the cover items you set atop of them. And the community is great. There are a number of steady users that produce great graphics you can easily drop into your program without having to pay a dime.

If I had to list any cons, working on maps does eat up some time, especially when dealing with the initial learning curve. So if you're looking to quickly whip out detailed maps right off the bat, play with the demo first. And it is a bit resource-intensive. For me, it's not a problem as my system is geared for MMORPGs. And my work computer can handle it with the standard onboard graphics card. And the cost could scare you away. My fiance bought it for me as a gift, so I didn't have to worry about it. But I'd like to think I would have made the purchase anyway.

Peruse the forums and look at the maps users have created - there's a forum specifically for that. It should shape your opinion some.
 

I own the program just not use it for most my mapping.. However!

1. The user community for the software is beyond great. In fact, beyond words even. Some of the better artists on there even have taken requests from what I have seen in the past.

2. Make sure the license fits your needs, if you ever plan to publish or do anything professional with your maps. The product license really does not allow for it.

3. The price can be a bit.. iffy for some, I tend to agree with the license restrictions however you can take the path Ruined and myself have taken, get someone who likes you to buy it for you!

I have some person issues with the maps produced but I think thats more of a "me" thing and what I like to see from my maps. Hands down though, if you are not publishing and like the maps it creates, it might be what you are looking for. Best advice, grab the demo and ask questions on their forum.
 

I would, as said befor, just be using for quick maps for a campaign. Do you have to have special paper for the mapes or anything?

Well, if you can't get the Demo to work.. going to have to take a guess that the actual version won't run either.

Perhaps you need to ask questions on their forum to help you get it up and going?
 

I like Dundjinni for working up a quick map. Relatively easy to work with once you get used to it. There are some things to watch out for with the license if you have plans to use the maps in a published work, but it sounds like you will be fine in that regards. It doesn't hurt that they were selling the software at half-price at GenCon last year, made the price easier to handle.

You definitely need to get the demo working first though so you can try it for yourself. Their forums should be able to help you there.
 


My wife & I really like it.

You can whip out decent maps with a little practice, and great ones with time & experience.

Here's a link to the Dundjinni support forum. There are several threads regarding Java and the demo, so if you look around a bit there should be something to help you. In particular, make sure your Java install is up-to-date.
