Dwarven Defender AC Bonus

You'll have to weaken other parts - the class is balanced (a little on the powerful side, even) without the AC bonus, it seems. :(

I think if you have the bonus feats every fourth level instead of every third level, and you'll be okay.

Re

The fact that they don't gain an AC bonus in the ELH is what made me wonder if the AC bonus was an error or just overlooked. It seemed strange that such a prominent and helpful ability would be overlooked.

It does very much fit the class though.

I certainly agree with all of this.

Re: feat progression - this may work, though I'd love to test it before using it. Over 12 levels, they'd get less 1 feat and +4 AC!

They ought to get it. I say this because 'AC Bonus' is a pretty easy heading to comprehend, and doesn't really need much more explaining than that. This is also the case with the monk, where the AC bonus really isn't mentioned a whole lot in the description, and isn't listed as a specific special ability or anything either. They probably just assumed that people would realize the DD bonus is the same as the monk bonus and not worry about it. I suspect that why it was left out of the ELH is that in the hasty effort to convert every prc to epic levels they just didn't look at the table which lists AC bonus because it's next to the save and bab columns, which don't apply to epic levels.

The AC bonus should have een mentioned in the text or taken out. Without description, there's no way to know what type of bonus it is.

It should be a dodge bonus to fit with the rest of the class' flavor, but that should be explicit.

Actually, I don't think that the monk's AC bonus is ever given a name, I would just classify the DD's AC bonus as 'miscellaneous' that always applies, or as a dodge if someone absolutely needed a type.

Sadly, you're right - the monk bonus is never named. It's not a mechanical problem, though, as it's clarified in the text when it stays and when it goes. This isn't the case wit thw DD bonus.

I've emailed the Sage. Let's see what he has to say. ;)

Any word yet?

I've got a Dragonkin defensive fighter in my game currently who is basically a runaway slave. He's looking for a home and has found it among dwarves (as well as a family among adventurers). He's trying to get them to teach him to be a dwarven defender.

As opposed to a door stop he'd be a cavern wall, but hey, I thought it was a cool idea so I ok'd it.

But his AC is already 32 and about the only CR 9 critters who can hit him are incorporeal which is getting a little far fetched to explain why there are so many of them. So any additional bonuses to AC for the Dwarven Defender are currently big on my radar. :)

How is his AC that high? If it is from magic, Dispel Magic works wonders. If its from stats, being held will ruin his day. If its from armor / natural armor, touch attacks can work wonders.
