Also can't you get a masterwork climbers kit? better bonuses and whatnot.

And, since I dont know alot about lumberjacking, what would you be climbing the trees for?

Well, I am no lumberjack either, and I am reasoning most of this through stereotypes and supposition, but I believe they climb trees to take off most of the branches before felling the main tree portion. I would imagine it is easier to manage a few branches at a time rather than trying to get to the trunk after the tree has fallen and all the branches are still attached and in the way.... but again, just trying to reason it out.

Some of my ideas are from these Lumberjack competitions you see every now and then on ESPN, but it has been quite some time since I have seen one of these shows.

As for MW Climbing kit, I was unaware of this, but now see it in the PHB. So does this mean that it is +4 to climbing check? The description seems to contradict itself.
Climbing Kit is +2, but a MW Climbing kit says only +2 as well, or am I misreading this enty. The text under Tool, Masterwork is confusing especially how the last sentence reads.

You climb and trim before cutting, so the tree has a smaller chance of getting hung up in the limbs of other trees. This is very dangerous as it could then fall unexpectedly and kill someone.

So much for my reasoning skills. That makes sense. Now-a-days, they have huge robot claw type devices that cut, strip limbs and most bark, and stack on trucks... all at once.

You should have a serious balance check modifier for log rolling!

Balance is a definet must! Not to mention, besides the axe probably a polearm with a hook on the end could also be a class weapon, or tool for river running.

Because of that, the dwarf would probably not be penalized as much for movement rate while moving through swamps with deadfalls or similar types of terrain.

Oh yes Flannel padded armor +3

If he's going to be climbing up trees and such, what about some slippers of spider climb? Can get up the tree alot faster and get branches hacked off. And possibly ring of feather fall in case you get knocked off a tree.
Did someone mention an adamatine bane vs plants axe yet? :o

Man! I'd love this just because as a DM, I'd finally get a chance to work in the elemental plane of wood!!!!

And I thought that wood element template in the manual of the planes was just going to go to waste...

hehe... Favored Enemy (Plant)- classic...

Maybe a bunch of Quaal's feather tokens (Tree) too... just because they're cheap, and if you ever challenged anyone to a contest of strength- it'd be fun to throw a bunch of those down, heft your axe and see who can cut down the most!

Or just make a cool conversation point/demonstration at parties...

How would you think this build turn out?
Dwarven Ranger 11/ Fighter 4/ MT 5 (start at lvl 7-8)
STR 18 DEX 16 CON 20 INT 14 WIS 12 CHA 10

A dwarf\ven ranger that is also a master thrower of hand axes, that can be thrown and for TWF. Maybe a few axes, hammers, and daggers to keep up the arsenal. Wolf as companion. Taking Master thrower at 9.

My character has a higher STR score so i think i might take Brutal Throw. Imp Crit Hand Axe would be good as well. Is there any other 'Throw' feat out there?

What 3 tricks should i pick up?
Can i take up more Weapon focus to extend my tricks to other weapons?

1 PBS
2 TWF
3 Endurance
3 Precise Shot
4 Far Shot
5 ??????
6 WF Hand Axe
6 WS Hand Axe
