Dwarven Women: Beards or no Beards?

It may not be stated in 3e that dwarf females are beardless, but it is implied in the artwork and the lack of statements to the contrary.

Matter of preference, really. I find the idea of bearded dwarf females repulsive. None in my game, thanks.

And I don't care what Gary thinks.

Look there lads, like my father told me, "When there's grass on the field, play ball".

A good beard on a woman grows in when she gets other "attributes" as well! You know, her first anvil!

A character I once had: ;)

For me, yes and no.

Most Dwarven Clans feature females that grow beards, but I have three that don't (one of which the males shave as well). However, all but one of the "bearded clans" makes it traditionl for the females to shave the morning of their wedding, using special herbs on her skin to prevent future growth (it's thus also most common for the wedding day to be the first time a Dwarven groom has seen his betrothed's face without the beard unless they have been long-time friends since childhood).

I figured this retained the original flavor for Dwarves while meeting the standard in 3E of bonuses and benefits having a sufficient cost: Want a beardless female dwarf, then grab yourself a husband.;)

Yes Virginia Dwarven women do have beards. As with the men the beard appears at the onset of puberty. The confusion arises from a little known fact of the Dwarven reproductive system. A Dwarven women's beard falls out during the second trimester of pregnancy! Traditionally a dwarven woman will shave the beard and use the hair to weave the childs first blanket.

I mean, where would we be without bearded dwarven lasses, rat soup and dwarven battle-bread?!?!

(somewhere off the disc is my guess)

I never played a dwarf, because my main DM would always tell me that I'd have to have a beard [I've never played a male character, nor do I have plans to]... This idea just... bleh. I don't want to have a beard on my character unless it has... uh, unless it's a man! :)

I assume you mean your previous GMs, rather than your current one, right Seyrn?
