E2: The Secret of Gemhold [Patlin Judging]

Percy stops her dancing upon overhearing the Thorn. "So you know of Gemhold? And of the Nomads. We are indeed planning to kick them the Goblins out of Gemhold. Can you tell us more? Have the goblins been attacking you with these new weapons? Could we assist you in fighting them?"

"Yes we have always watched Gemhold, but saw no need in disuading the gnomes in their pursuit of gems. The hills do not have many connections to our lands. The nomads, however, are our friends. They travel the hidden trails between worlds and respect the natural order in these forests. Lately our scouts who watch the goblins have been ambushed by horrid weapons. We have retreated deeper into the woods, but would prefer that they were not allowed to continue. We have a more pressing issue at the moment, if you could help us with that, we'd be able to return the favor in kind." replies the Thorn waiting to see if the group is interested before presenting his offer.

"Oooo. More pressing than goblins weilding cold iron?" Percy murmers. "Well, Gemhold has been held by the goblins for years. A few more days won't make much difference. What is your other problem? We'd be glad to help if we're able, and if it means you'll help more to liberate Gemhold."

"A mated pair of ambush drakes have been roused from their long slumber and have begun attacking irrationally. We've sent a sprite in to try and disuade them from their insatiable hunger, but our scout has yet to return. Their lair is not far from this circle and we were hoping that you could help us." replies the Thorn.

"Hey, it is what that awake us the other night, right? Is that couple have children? I wonder if they were connected, because if it is, it is half the job done." tells Ridik, asking his companions.

"The ambush drakes are large draconic creatures similar in shape to a wolf. The creature is about not much taller than your pony and it has an elongated jaw and a muscular build, though its wings seem stunted for its size. I do not believe they have children, but then they have been asleep for a long time." replies the Thorn.

*Ridik notes that this is very similar to the description of the creature that woke them (copy and paste!)

"That's it, it is that creature. One came on us and try to eat one of us for his night snack. But we have already deal with it (I should say they. I was asleep and when I woke up, it was already dead... it seems I lack a bit of sleep). The creature fit the descripton, but there was only one. So I suppose there should be another one if they are a couple. So, they are the only two in the region? Just to be sure if we go against one remaining or if the other have no lini with the one that annoy you." replies Ridik

"Well, we did kill one, which attacked us outside the forest. It was a nasty thing which attacked without warning. We handled it pretty easily, so we'd be happy to take out the other one. Can one of you lead us to them? In the morning, though. We need to finish our sleep."

She sighs. "They mate, do they? They probably do have kids." Percy looks forlorn.

"If you've tackled one already, then your quest might be half over already. We will watch over you while you sleep. Please get some rest. We are most grateful that you will help us with both the drakes and the goblins." replies the Thorn. The Petals have calmed down and begin planting themselves back in their mossy crook of the tree branches.

ooc: I realize that I've not answered your question about the King Under the Hill. I don't know anything about that adventure and really should read it. I'm assuming that these Thorns and Petals are probably part of his kingdom.

Percy will go back to sleep, trusting the fey.

OOC: [sblock] You don't need to read it, though it was a fun adventure. In summary, the party (including Percy, Gorefoot, Nars & Rodimus) were trying to catch a redcap who kept teleporting into Orussus and killing people at random. They traced the redcap to the faerie woods, but had to make a deal with the King under the Hill (that's his only name, I guess) to give him the Redcap's necklace in return for traveling in his realm. The necklace is what gave the redcap the transport ability. The King gave the party two Thorns to guide them. The party eventually killed the redcap. The King wanted to use the Necklace to escape from the faerie woods, where he's imprisoned, but it wasn't powerful enough. Still, the King probably views the party favorably. [/sblock]

Gorefoot nods to the fey and says, "Thanks. We could use all the help we can get with Gemhold. Those ambush drakes are as good as dead." Gorefoot heads to his bedroll and does his best to hide the cold iron he has on him, out of respect for the fey.

[sblock=OOC]One other thing to note about that adventure, several of us carry cold iron weapons now, and Nars is in possession of the "legendary" Fellhunter (a +1 Cold Iron Fey Bane shortsword, IIRC)[/sblock]
