Earthdawn 4e Announced

The step mechanic started as Step 1 = d2, Step 2 = d3, etc. With ever-increasing die types and quantities. My group liked it as a break away from the always-roll-a-d20 of D&D.

That may have been it, I was happy with D&D and so raided it for ideas and flavor to add to my D&D games, I never played it in its own system.
 

Looks very very interesting. Anyone have any experience with Redbrick's editing/art/production/publishing standards? Are they polished and shiny? It's not a deal-breaker if they aren't, but it's extra motivation if they are.
 

Pixie like race: Windlings, Lizard race: T'skrang, Rock men, as mentioned, are obsidimen.
The Old empire was Thera, think magical corrupt humanistic Romans.
Dwarves were the most populus race, then orcs then humans.
All the races had to hide in the Kaers for about 2000 years. Many of the kears were breached by the horrors. The survivers are coming out to discover that the entire world has changed from what they were taught by their elders, as the Horrors ravaged everything.
One off shoot of the elves discovered that the horrors fed off of pain and fear that they inflicted, so the whole branch of elves underwent a ritual to cause aganozing thorns to grow from their skin, putting them in constant self inflicted pain and thus unappatizing to the horrors.
It was a great world as it had a built in reason why there are dungeons filled with treasure and monsters scattered over the landscape;)
 

It's a good match because it already is a "Points of Light" campaign setting.

Breifly, for those that don't know it, the world once had fairly large and successful civilizations (Elves, Dwarves, Lizardmen, and especially the human Theran Empire). However, a bunch of otherworldly creatures of enormous power, called The Horrors, invaded the world and began laying waste to it. While some minor Horrors were part of a race of similar creatures, most of the Horrors were unique creatures with their own desires, powers, and goals.

The humanoid races tried to band together to fight the Horrors, but they failed. So Men and Dwarves (and some others) sealed themselves up in underground fortifications called Kaers to wait for the Horrors to leave. Other races found their own ways to survive...

Many years passed, and finally, the races are coming out from hiding, tentatively exploring the world again. Some Horrors or their creations are still around. Some Kaers are still sealed against all intruders, while others proved too weak to resist the Horrors and were invaded, the inhabitants killed or worse... The Kaers that survived the Horrors are the Points of Light in a world filled with ruins, the remnants of the Horrors invasion, and lost magic and treasures.
 


4e is made for Earthdawn. Much more than FR or Eberron.

Really?

Yeah everyone has powers in earthdawn, but nothing is once a day or once an encounter. The closest you come to that is some fatigue/damage being applied during the use of some powers. You aren't limited to knowing a handful of powers, you don't magically forget things, leveling is done by increasing your individual abilities by spending karma so people increase in a wide variety of ways.

I guess the POL setting fits the default POL setting of D&D.

If you just say everyone has powers and its POL it sounds similar and fitting. But the mechanics of the powers gave earthdawn a totally different feel to me.

I love earthdawn, I'll check out what they do with this but I do not see this turning out well.

The FASA stuff had amazing art IMO, Shadowrun art done for D&D, I don't know about the new Redbrick stuff.
