I watched a documentary on these things on The Weather Channel.

Beyond their RW potential- they built some of these things in Haiti for 4k apiece largely using things like tires and bottles (post-earthquake & storm detritus) found in the streets - I thought they provided a nice template for the dwellings of Halflings, Gnomes and even certain Dwarven communities.

I watched Garbage Warrior on Sundance and it was quite interesting (and a bit depressing with his legal woes). Of course I was watching more for ideas for Gamma World/Mutant Future, but earthships do have a great deal of potential for many settings, including offworld colonization and desert dwelling fantasy races.

There was another architect- his name escapes me, unfortunately- who, among other projects, did a church for a rural community using recycled rubber tires for wall-building, and car windshields as hanging windows/light catchers. Gorgeous.

I think of it in game terms as perfect for the house of worship for a community of Tinker Gnomes.

Edit: if this isn't it- designed by Samuel Mockbee- it's damn close.

That is a gorgeous building! I've always wanted to take Rural Studio with Mockbee ever since I learned about it. Now that you mention it does seem like a tinker gnome type structure.

For some more gnomish or hobbitish buildings, check out Emerald Earth Sanctuary Photos. I studied natural building there one summer years ago. Just walking into those spaces you felt good :)
