I got both books for a dollar each. Both are gonzo in a way that would make Gonzo mundane.
From all I've heard McCraken is a decent fellow. But he has these passions, and he can get a tad overboard about them. Raven can be thought of as the Ed Wood of RPGs. He loves what he does, and he does them with great enthusiasm; but he doesn't do them with any degree of competency, and he just can't see this. He is very much blind to his own faults.
It's not that he lacks imagination, it's more that he lacks the tools to express that imagination. That said, there is a certain Gonzo on acid charm to Synnibar. It's not something you'd want to run straight, but at 4:00am after a 36 hour D&D® marathon it could be fun.

A few years ago I tracked down the author (got him out of the shower to answer the phone!) and arranged for a special printing just for EN World folks. Yours for $32 + S&H, if you want one; I have a few copies left, all numbered and autographed. Contains a history of how the game came about, too.
It's less weighty than TB's copy of Synnibarr, but just as bad. I think this is the favorite piece in my collection.
