Eberron- And why I cannot jump onboard? A different take

I guess I would fall in the Eberron= lukewarm feelings camp. I am sure that the setting will be good. It would not have been chosen otherwise. Also, I like Keith's previous work, especially Crime and Punishment. :)

However, nothing the wizards has thrown out regarding Eberron has "wowed" me. I guess that they were looking for something generic that would be highly fantastical, which Eberron fits. Instead, I was hoping for something more mature or wildly different from exisiting settings.

I wanted to see some sacred cows thrown on their tail end and I wanted to see a world that would excite passion. While the magetech is cool, it just is not different enough.

I cannot see myself buying it and I know that my gaming group feels the same way. For us, Eberron feels like the past, we have been there and done that. I guess we wanted something made for the gamer who has been playing for years, rather than the kiddies.

I still have to say kudos to Keith though. Good job and I am always glad to see a book from him.

I am going to buy Eberron knowing full well right now that I will not be playing it. I want to buy it, just because I want to support someone else who is "living the dream" so-to-speak.

With that said, I wont be playing it primarily because I already have a world I play in, and Eberron doesn't make me wanna hop.

I think, and I have no idea if this is even valid, the reason it doesn't apeal to me is one of elitism. See, I am a total movie snob, and when I saw it compared to Brotherhood of the Wolf by the creator, I groaned audibly. That movie was a three different kinds of stinky.

That and the uber magic of the setting seems a bit over the top for my tastes.

The concept art so far is cool though.

That's what I am talking about. Everything they released so far invokes zero passion. If I hadn't seen someone really attacking Keith on the WOTC boards, then Eberron would be off the radar again.

It does not seem to drive a lot of excitement.

I don't know. I'm quite excited about Eberron, even though I've had bad luck with campaign settings. It does seem new and fresh to me, and it looks like a lot of fun.

I'll most probably buy it as soon as it comes out.

While I like the design philospohy behind it -

Raiders of the Lost Arc meets Maltese Falcon meets somthing else

I too have been lukewarm about it.

It is still early and not enough info has been provided to make a sound call.

I am interested in the setting and would like to see some alternates built into it, magic system, aliginment, things like that.

I'm waiting to hear more before I make any type of judgement yay or nay. July is still a ways off.

However, I would add that it will take an act of the gods to get me to move away from the Realms.

Old and set in my ways....

Eb's World?

My question is, why another setting? Why not work on Greyhawk or FR, the two greatest worlds next to Neo-Orion (my campaign world)?
Worse, everytime I think of this new setting, I think of Green Acres. An old 60's sit-come with Eddie Albert.
But as an aside I will buy it for any idea's I can use in my own campaign
I guess its the name of the world that kinda turns me off from digging it.

Actually Scott, those are the THREE greatest worlds next to Novare (my campaign world).

I have to agree though, I would have much rather seen a massive overhaul of an existing setting, preferrably Greyhawk. If for no other reason than to have all the old traditionalists come out of the wood-work and aymmering about what is canon and what isnt. That is always fun to watch.

Nice Green Acres reference...now there are images of some Real Charming Pigs running around Eberron riding magical trains and stuff that I cannot get out of my head.

Good times, good times...

Will I buy it? I have no idea. I take a look at it when it comes out and decide then. Will I ever run a game in it? Highly unlikely. I've got, hmm, about a dozen campaign settings, and yet I run a homebrew. But they're fun to read and collect.
